Most useless feature on an AR15.

Chrome lined barrels are good for the police because when the criminals throw the gun into the ocean or lake, the chrome helps prevent corrosion and aids in forensic bullet matching!

See my post on page 1. Have you ever actually shot an AR without a deflector left-handed?
I have. Some aren't a problem, others toss brass at my cheek or down my shirt. Its hit or miss, no pun intended. So all of mine have brass deflectors. With no velcro.

first thing I would eliminate from the AR is the 5.56 cartridge.

AFS
I agree. I was told it had something to do with tracer rounds. but if you OAL mic a 5.56 chamber it is around 2.360 depending on what bullet you use to mic it with which is way to long to fit in an AR mag. tracer rounds are still 2.260 in length. maybe they need that extra chamber throte length for pressure or something. never researched it but i would like to have my AR chambered in .223 so I could OAL mic it like I do other my other rifles.

Lights lazors ect are great on a dedicated self defense gun but i dont want them on a general purpose gun.
Many of us can't really afford a dedicated self-defense carbine and a general-purpose carbine. One may have to be configurable to both roles.

Nice thing about rails, though, is that the light goes on the rail or comes off the rail in just a few seconds, so you can configure it one way for the range and one way for HD or whatever.

from personal experience, a collapsable stock on ANY weapon is nice to have when you are wearing body armor with plates. i tried to shoulder someones fixed stock with my full patrol gear on and there was no way i could get proper aim without muscling it. for what its worth, collapsable stocks have their uses in a wide range on weapons, regardless of barrel size

Very true. Collapsible stocks are a must if you wear body armor, especially the thicker entry vests with the shoulder pads and padded neck collars. Those things get pretty bulky.

mobern combat has changed since the new vest with ESAPI plates have come into play. you are no longer taught to shoot with your body in a bladed stance. you square off your body towards the target/enemy and bring the buttstock into your chest, so if you DO take a round, it hits the plate and not an unarmored spot. therefore the collapsable stock comes into heavy play. maybe not every civilian needs one other than to say they have one, because they can (god bless america). but thats where it gets put into true use

also, not every shooter is the same

- The CAA butt stock with rails on it
- A 3v or 6v flash light on a rifle with a barrel longer than 20 inches
- Bright, polished stainless barrels
- A bull barrel shorter than 20 inches
- A collapsible stock on a rifle with a bull barrel of any length
- A collapsible stock on a rifle with a barrel longer than 18 inches
- An A1 upper receiver that is not part of a "retro" rifle or a "truck gun"
- An AR15 pistol, the kind with a short barrel and no stock on the buffer tube
- Pigtail-style pressure switch wires

Uh, I think they are bright because they are stainless, no need to paint to keep rust away. Not everyone needs a rifle that is all black.

Shorter barrels are inherently more accurate.

Your list actually looks like a list of personal pet peaves, not any type of rational list.

I like matte stainless, just not polished stainless. No need to reflect the sun into other shooters' eyes. And shorter barrels aer inherently more accurate? Not if they don't provide the proper velocity to stabilize the bullet.

On shorter barrels--They are stiffer, and so give better accuracy. But for the long ranges, yes, they do not provide the velocity to consistantly busk the wind.

I would say the most annoying thing on most ARs is the M4 cut, as it is ulsess for 99% of us, and it probably has some downside. If anyone can back me up, feel free to do so:D

I can't really think of any down sides other than it is usually about $10 extra.

im not sure the tacktical ball ping hammer barrel replacement is very usefull. lol. but who knows with those crazy roofers.

ha, yea Im a goofball. :p
