I gave my brother in law a Crossman Benjamin, and he turned it into a swap, sending me his older Gamo Big Cat 1250. However, he liked his older sight, so sent me the Gamo with the newer Centerpoint Optics 3-9x40mm sight - not mounted. I am having trouble figuring out how to mount.
Is there a trick to align the old rings on the small slots on the Gamo?
Or, do I need new mounting rings to fit the Gamo? If so, what do I look for?

Thanks for any advice.

OK, I answered my own question. Most scope rings are built for Weaver rail mounting. Gamo air guns need rings for a dovetail, with a stop pin to secure the back ring from sliding during "reverse recoil." Every Gamo gun sold with a scope has them. Every Gamo and BSA scope sold for air rifles has them. SO Gamo buys a whole lot of those rings.
BUT, Gamo will not sell the rings as an accessory or a repair part! They do sell a ring set for air rifles, but with no stop pin. If you buy that bring pair, you also must buy a separate scope stop with the stop pin, which is just a block to install in front of the back ring!

Solution is to go to eBay to find a ring set with stop pin for dovetail. Several are available, including ring pair and several with two rings on a single block base. You can even get a stop-pin mount that has a Weaver rail on it to then mount standard rings.

Hi Craig, Thanks for the picture, I didn't realize that Hamo doesn't use Picattiny rails like of the other rifles due. Maybe my assumption is due to the fact I gravitate towards AR style rifles.
