My Glock experience

But..., but..., glocks have no soul...

You are a very naughty man bringing that up! Now the poor guy will just have to live with durability, reliability, value, capacity, light weight, simplicity, OEM and aftermarket parts ubiquity and modularity!

And come to think of it I just did my first 1911 detail strip (don't laugh - I'm a mechanical dunce and hey field stripping is rarely necessary in normal use or maintenance). Had every part of the RIA out, cleaned and back together in only about 450 times the amount it takes 1911Tuner - sad but actually true! - and you know what? Couldn't find a damn bit of soul anywhere. No loose pieces or parts missing in the gun - so not sure where that soul is supposed to go anyway.

No I'm not bashing the 1911 or turning this into a comparison. I have both and enjoy both - but in both cases for muchj more objective reasons than this "soul" that is almost guaranteed to be churned up within 10 posts of anyone saying anything nice about Glocks. Enjoy it man - shoot the hell out of it, spend five minutes cleaning it every so often, and repeat. It's what Glocks are for. The buggers just flat out work, and work well.

One of the best things you may find about Glocks is that if you buy or borrow another one, it will be the same. Weights vary (a bit). Grip widths vary (a bit less) and sight radii vary (a bit less too). Apart from that, other Glocks will feel, work, and strip exactly the same. There's something to be said for consistency.

Extended mag release

I had an extended mag release on my Glock 27 while carrying in a Nemesis pocket holster and the magazine came loose several times. I replaced it with a standard part and all-is-well.

And if Glocks have no soul, how come the devil was very interested in being handy in both posts? ;)

Carried a Glock 27 since they first....

came out but had to switch to a Steyr S40 because my powerlifting, my other vice, has made my hands so meaty and with my short fingers I could no longer get a straight pull on the Glock trigger.........Many, many thousands of rounds without any problems at all. I still believe those reported ka-booms were with hot handloads........chris3

G17 with 5,000+ Rounds and Still Never any Failure

I have a Glock 17 "America's Heros" edition with well over 5,000 rounds of all types of cheap and expensive ammunition through it. It has never failed in any way shape or form. The grip is awesome. It's accurate and I love it for CCW carry. Check out the 33-round Glock magazines just for fun! :)

Before you add the 3.5 Lb. disconnector, read "Light Trigger Liability", page 8 of the June, 2006 edition of "Combat Handguns". One of our moderators (Mr. Bartholomew) made contributions to that article. Food for thought. For me, I keep my Glocks (2 G-17s) as they came from the factory.

I sold my soul to a guy named Todd for a peice of cold pizza up on a mountain within urination distance of Canada. My excuse was that it wasn't delivery, it was Digorno(sp?).

I get along just fine with my Glock as well.

Soul is overrated.

One other point

Fiance just bought a new Mark III Ruger.

At least with a Glock you don't need a dowel and a RUBBER MALLET to get the pistol apart (the RUBBER MALLET IS RECOMMENDED IN RUGER'S MANUAL!)

It's a nice pistol, but geez...

Yup, I hear ya. A G26 was my first centerfire and only Glock (for now). I've subsequently bought a Smith 642 and a CZ85, both of which are fine pistols. Neither really fits the bill for a civilian carry piece as well as the G26. The 642 is lighter, and just as accurate, but only has 5 shots. The CZ is obviously heavier and shoots softer, has great capacity, but at the expense of higher weight, larger size, and more complicated internals and controls. I guess i'll add another, either a g19 or g17, at some point, if I find a cheap one.

FWIW- I have a 3.5# connector, polish job, and extended slide stop on mine.

I really REALLY don't like Glocks.

REALLY.

In fact, I absolutely cannot stand the Glock 23 I bought to serve as my "canoing" pistol. I hate it so much that I dunk it in water, get it dirty, bang it around on stuff... (I didn't want to scratch my HK  )

I also am appalled at the sight of the Glock 19 that I purchased for my dear wife to protect herself and my baby girl when I'm away at work. I Dispise that one so much that, when her Kahr MK9 was stolen, I replaced it with a hideous G26.

Now that my house is "Kahr-free", I find myself without a small CCW for dinner and movies and such. I might just torment myself with the puchase of a G27, simply because I am a sucker for punishment.

Before you think this is boring sarcasm and that I'm some Glockaholic who's trying to be funny, I really, seriously do not "like" Glocks. They are UGLY, boring, incorrectly angled, come with SUCK sights and a water gun trigger... BUT I know that no matter what; be it wet, dirty, banged around, ignored, and generally maligned, all those Glocks go boom when I squirt the trigger. :p
