I recently took delivery of a NIB, 3rd generation Glock 17. (BTW, is it a "M17" or "G17?")

I also bought two boxes of WW ammo from wally.

Anyway, I took it to the range today. I didn't know what to expect.
I'd always heard Glock is bad. They blow up, etc. I'd also heard WW white ammo from wally world is bad. It blows up, etc.

Bad gun + bad ammo? I half expected the devil himself to pop out.
At the least I envisioned myself walking around with a Glock slide sticking out of my forehead.

So I was extremely surprised to discover my 17 is one of the sweetest, mildest, accurate and fun guns I've ever shot. The trigger pull is great: smooth, crisp and predictable. No jams. No malfunctions. Period.

My new Combat Commander? Kept locking open prematurely. (No Colt bashing, please. I love my Colts.)

My 5 screw M-27 3.5 inch barrel Smith? Heck, I even managed to get a bullet stuck in the barrel! (Reloads.)

But the Glock was perfect. I love it.

Consider me a Glock fan. It's definately gonna be one of my favorites.

it'll blow up on your next range session. better send it to me to dispose of!!!

I have his medium sized brother- G19- my favorite gun right now.

OMG!

Isn't it obvious? He died in a KB, he's still laying there on the firing line with the slide sticking out of his forehead DRT!

But his ghost dosen't believe he's dead and went home to post about it, just like in "The Sixth Sense"….

Freaky…

Although, the "plastic gun that can pass through x-ray machines" would be the perfect carry piece for a ghost, no?

I have a .45 Glock 21 and a 9mm 26, I had a priest bless them, but I'm stil afraid to shoot them...

:D

That is to be expected :D

G 19

As the owner of a Glock 19, I have to share some disappointment..

After at least 2,000 rds through her in 2 years I have yet to have a failure. Oh, about 1900 rds have been Wally World WWB

How boring ;)

(wish I could say the same thing for my 1911)...

Actually, that's not a defect; it's a feature. 1911 pattern pistol owners like to tinker, so the manufacturers oblige. :p

As a huge 1911 fan and owner of around 25 of them (mostly my cherished Colts) I recently ventured into the world of Glock (because I love 10mm and wanted to add another 10mm gun to my stable). I bought a new Glock 29 with night sights (10mm). Needed some tweaking to make it as I wanted it to be (3.5# connector, ultimate trigger stop, KKM fully supported barrel, Pearce grip extensions) and I LOVE it! Great gun.

Awesome power in a fairly compact size. I feel well armed with the Glock 29 stoked with 11 rounds of 10mm 180 gr. Golden Sabers moving at 1200 fps. The gun is reliable, accurate, and potent. It's quite a change to get used to the feel of compared to 1911's, BHP's, and S&W revos, but I like the variety given by all of these guns.

There is absolutly nothing wrong with a glock for anybody to think that they are bad guns, i think they are fine firearms, but they just don't fit me good and that along with the stock sights are the only two reasons i wouldn't have a glock, but for no reason that could even come close to being because they are a "bad gun".and the sights could be changed, so the only real reason is the way they feel in my hand. and wwb has been the primary ammo shot through all of my handguns and all the handguns i have ever shot. the ammo is fine, which makes for a great combo, good ammo and great pistol, that's all you need.

I think Glocks are uglier than hell, but my 34 is one of my favorite guns -- and the one I'll shoot as often as anything at an IDPA match. (I'm a great big CZ enthusiast, too, so the twain DO meet, sometimes.)

The 17 is arguably the purest Glock.

I'm not a fan of Glocks but I do have one and I think they are very good at what they do. What peeves me is the amount of work to make it comfortable to carry:

The stock trigger kind of snags at the end but that can be corrected with a 3.5# connector.

The slide stop lever and takedown lever should be replaced with extended models for user friendliness.

The stock sights stink. Mepro's would be great.

That is almost $150 more I'd have to spend in order to carry the gun. I guess the trigger could be subjective but the snubby control levers are just unacceptable.

That being said, I will get a used G19 one day.:D

I went out today and shot my G19. I shot Winclean, WWB, and some Federal that I just got from ammoman. The WWB was crap, the Winclean was okay, but the Federal was really nice. The recoil was softer and the muzzle did not snap like the other ammo I used. Looks like I will be ordering some more Federal from ammoman.:D :D

I bought a used G19 a few months ago. No jams, no recoil (even with +p+ ammo!) and the easiest gun to shoot well. I can even carry it in the cargo pocket of my shorts (shocked I could do this) very comfortably.
I love it, even though I never thought I'd love Glocks.

So you buy a stock gun, then replace a bunch of stuff to make it work the way you like it to...
sounds like my 1911s :)

I carry a Glock every day.

That "snag" let's you know that the striker is fully cocked and the gun is ready to fire with slightly more force. I've put 3.5 connectors in my Glocks and have eventually put the stock 5# connector back, they just work better for me. And my CCW Glock has the NY1 spring. I like it, when returning the trigger forward during rapid fire you get a distintly felt "Click" when the trigger resets. Plus, the NY springs have never, to my knowledge, broken. And for a carry/duty weapon, the 3.5 connector is awful light and if you go to court you may regret having made the change. The real answer is understand the gun and train around the stock connector.

The extended controls may be nice for range use, but for carry they're too big and uncessary. The slide stop isn't even used in combat and an extended takedown lever would be a big mistake on a carry or duty gun. Same goes with the extended mag release, it's too easy to hit by accident. Training is the cure if you can't find the mag release, not a longer mag release.

Yes, the stock sight suck, how many sub $500 guns come with really good sites? Mepro nite sites, installed, $70

Seriously, if you need change it all around to suit, maybe it was the wrong gun in the first place?

When I carry my Glock, the extended controls have not been a problem. Matter of fact, I think the holster makers make their holsters with the extended controls in mind.

I do agree about the extended mag release. I had one on before and took it off immediately because it felt horrible.

Yep. Spend about $500 on a NIB Gen III Glock add $150 worth of upgrades to it that you can install yourself, and you are up to the price of most moderate to low end production 1911s but with less weight and more capacity. That is assuming you don't have to or even want to tinker with your 1911.

Like them or not. They are simple in design,
tough as nails, have good accuracy, light weight, and almost always go boom. What more could you really ask from a gun? I like my two tone Nickel Sig 220 or m two tone 1911. They are truly beautiful. Bt when I go out backpacking or hikiing my G30 goes along. I don't want to ruin the finish on my fancy guns. I know I can't hurt it with the
rough treatment it sometimes gets in the woods. But it will fire every time. And 10+1 rounds of big fat .45 with a second mag with 13 rounds in it (G21 mag) its a real comfort. They definately have their place.

I do not have a 1911 but I would definitely feel more confident working on the Glock, I have before, than I would tinkering with a 1911. I think the Glocks have about 34 parts, right?

I have the Lonewolf book that just explains everything in great detail that it would make anyone a Glock expert in a matter of hours!:what:

Can't argue about the capacity and weight issues. For those who carry for long periods of time, the weight issue looms bigger and bigger. For those who need capacity such as LEO's, that is a big issue. The combination of weight, capacity and size for the Glocks is incredible. I might dare to say that combination is perfect for a lot of professions or as a CCW.

I carry a G19 every day. Never a FTF, FTE, etc. Only shoot WWWB ammo, too. One gun, two mags, 31 rounds total (one in the pipe, 15 each mag) on my hip and it is not too heavy. I think that will be enough ammo for any gunfight. I started carrying mine when I heard that 4 young idiots walked into a waffle house, then a huddle house and robbed all of the occupants. This all happened a few mile from where I live and in an area in which I shop. You just never know. I'll be ready with my G19, my favorite carry piece.

I was trying to say is, that if a firearm is popular, which the Glock is. (Don't own one myself but I'm not against the idea. I keep vacillating between getting a Glock and an SA XD.) People will want to tinker with it. And there will be after-market parts for it, just like 1911s. And I don't think that is a bad thing.

What in another 10-15 years the patents will expire on the Glock? (not sure how patent law works anymore, could be a lot longer) And I bet we will be seeing Glock clones :)

Chris

What was crap about it? I don't get it.

possum, while I cannot speak for that poster who posted it was crap, I can tell you that the only founded criticism of WWB Valupaks, has been the use of brass plated bullets which could cause poor accuracy in some guns. This is not an issue anymore as they have switched to copper jackets.
