My newest Model 10-6 (Not safe for SW purists)

It is not simply a matter of liking or disliking the motif , there is also the element of making the firearm attractive to a child. Again - we are all subject to circumstances beyond our control , God forbid.

With that, I'm done.

Look, I simply stated my opinion and view. The fact that you do not care for it matters not to me. I won't argue it. I,m done too.

So, my final take on the finished item:

I dig the overall concept of flouting tradition.
I appreciate the work and imagination which went into "salvaging" a cast off hulk.
I think the base concept pistol would be fun to own.

-I don't like the stickers but then that's me and "stickers" in general.

-The finish isn't a color issue with me but more that it over-softens my appreciation of the pretty cool underlying gun given the way it presents as so much frosting.

In the end though, I'd shoot the bejeepers outa it and sincerely enjoy the scowls, hoots and howls of derision from the purists.

I wonder if a fella could anodize at least one speed-loader of aluminum cased .38s in pink if only as a display item.

Most children are attracted to guns anyways (I sure was), and without supervision will treat them as toys. Doesn't matter what color they are.

Children require close and continuous supervision with any firearms, and they need to be properly stored.

That's the long and short of that.

That should be the end all be all of the "child attraction" straw man argument.

Just as with antifreeze being an initially attractive color, scent and first taste - you do the right thing about it but don't rant endlessly about potential pitfalls which are a result of storage practices more than presentation failings.

Can't we just talk about what the gun is rather than what it "might" be?

I think it's "cute"!

Now, I wanna know how it shoots.

I approve of the "Hello Kitty" motif. Real guns should be kept out of reach of young children (and older children can be trained to shoot and respect guns) so the fact that it is pink is not a big deal.

In fact, has anyone thought that it could be a tactical advantage? Imagine a self-defense scenario where you had to draw such a weapon. Would it give your assailant enough pause for you to get off a shot?

This thread was a lot of fun before people started lecturing and quarreling. No matter the subject, someone always finds a reason to argue.

WELL I was doing real good untill Hello Kitty came into play LOL

I'm with ya brother!
Hello Kitty absolutely ruins it for me. What a joke and complete destruction of a good pistol.
:barf::banghead:

However, if a Strawberry Shortcake version comes up - I want it!

My Little Pony?......:neener:

It would be so cool to see this used effectively in a competition scenario.

I believe that what took place was a discussion , not a lecture or quarrel. If one posts a provocative topic , is it not likely to prompt or solicit opinionated responses? Would this not be an incredibly dull forum if we all shared the same opinion all of the time?

Discussion forum ..

I would appreciate your review of the sight mark sight. My 65 year old eyes could also use some help

Sometimes finding the 'dot' can be time consuming. Once found, it works very well for these old eyes. This is a 3 MOA dot, rather small. Using it I was able to consistently hit 4" plates on a dueling tree at 25 yards.

I like it, and want more revolvers fitted for them.

Once again.

For those who argue that it will be an attractant to small children.

HOW THE HECK ARE YOU STORING YOUR FIREARMS?

I mean, really? Are you allowing small children to play with your firearms on the theory that because they're not pink a child will respect the life altering potential inherent with the misuse of a firearm? Are you leaving your firearms laying on the floor at a daycare center?

I have a safe. Not even my wife knows the combination to my safe. I have no children.

I am convinced now, though.

Stay tuned for the Hello Kitty .308 Mauser project.

Todd:

It shoots awesome. Much better than I expected. The grips feel a bit large in my hands, but the revolver is very accurate.

The porting is effective, but it makes this pistol LOUD.

Plates fall easily. Half size plates on the dueling trees are no match.

I let a friend's daughter shoot it, and she started knocking down plates. Not bad for a first time shooter.

This project started as a way to mount a reflex sight on a Model 10. Now I'm considering doing more.

I have a 10-10 that's not particularly rare, and is pretty beat up as a police trade in. I think I'll do it next.

.
Those that have their panties in a twist in the discussion about children-and-firearms may need a "safe space" from "words". You people are acting like hoplophobes! for crying out loud. Any and all laws/ordinances/codes regarding criminal storage of a firearm clearly state our duty to protect our firearms from unauthorized use or handling. The "do you leave your firearms on the floor at a daycare center" question nailed it.

This is a very cool, humorous project that was well executed. Bravo!

First may I address the Revolver, as a final finished item! It is truly lovely!

Second reference all the comments about it being attractive to children? It is real attractive to me, aged 80! We have been instructed by the owner, he has no kids at home, kept in a safe, even his Wife has not the combination.

Safe enough? Yes think I.

What a work of love! And the fact that it knocks down mini plates, huge bonus. Bye the way your 158g lead SWC would make a great Self Defense load. And cheap. Part time employee at a gun store? Should wear it in a skeletonized shoulder rig. Awesome.

When my Daughter was a little girl 7yoa? And younger Her favorite toy, a non functioning long barreled 9mm Luger.

She runs Animal Hero Kids, and has been an animal person for 32 years. But loves her guns!

I am shooting 158gr LSWC made by Donnie Miculek at Bayou Bullets. I'm loading these in mixed headstamp brass with 3.9gr of Titegroup. A slight taper crimp is all it takes to prevent bullet jump. I use both CCI and Russian primers.

That's actually just a hair over the top end for .38Spl. Hodgdon lists 3.8gns as the max. So I don't doubt that it takes down the plates nicely. And I don't doubt that it's pretty loud due to both the stout charge as well as the porting and barrel length.

I'll bet they are fun to shoot though.... :D

And yes, you really do need to make up some powder coated bullets in nickel cases. Even if it's just dummy rounds for fun.

Even more over the top would be little Kitty stickers on the bullets with small red micro printing that says "From Kitty with Love" on the bullet sides..... :D That set of six I wouldn't shoot through. Lots of work to make them up.

I'd love to see some of these nasty, smoke-tastic wadcutters I have being shot from it. That porting would look like a locomotive.
