My old school take on a riflemans' rifle

Saw a near-twin of that rifle (IIRC) at a gun show this past spring. But it had a big externally adjusted Bausch & Lomb target scope instead of the Unertl . I was drooling, but I didn't inquire as to the price, ( the guy who had it was out getting coffee), however, I knew it was gonna be way up there. But talk about a classic! That sure qualifies. That photo of it on that old Chevy truck is also period correct and very classy.

Very nice. Those scopes are really cool and so is the rifle.

When I bought my 700 VS 38 years ago I wanted to put one of those on it. Couldn't find them.

GORDON: Looking at that sure does bring`s back the memories, of another very special Time and Place. I can remember seeing rifles like that one, and men that could shoot them on the big wide open Prairie Dog Towns in West Texas and Western Kansas when I was young. I truly miss thoes times and men, they were very special to me growing up. It really doesn't seem like that long ago, but it has been. If you didn't experience thoes times, you darn sure missed something. Thanks for sending for.

Virtually identical to Winchester Model 70, Serial Number 1. That rifle surfaced a few years back, with just that setup, except that it's in .30-06. It was bought by a Texas rancher who used it for coyote hunting.

I have the 1958 edition of that rifle in .243.I am at least the 3rd owner.I think it was used as a groundhog/varminter.The forearm has the finish worn from resting it on fenceposts/trees etc.Its my primary deer rifle.More than 50 taken with it.One of them,a 100 lb doe,was taken 10 days ago.I have a Nikon 3to9 on it.Love that rifle.
