I taped up my gun, lubed up the trigger pin, got a punch, and started hammering away, and that pin just won't budge! Some people say hammer left to right, others right to left; I tried it both ways and got nowhere. Any tips on taking it out?

The ONLY way to take out that pin is from right to left (tap it from the side that the ejection port is on). You can see that the pin is tapered on that side.

Some trigger pins are really tight. I had a surplus Israeli HP that the pin would not budge on, no matter what I tried. I finally took it to a gunsmith who had to destroy the pin in order to take it out.

Do you have a FN HP or a clone? What's the finish on it? I think that the "painted" finish of the black Mk-III HPs keeps that pin tightly in the hole.

When you guys say "Trigger pin", are you talking about the pin that holds the trigger in the gun, or the one that holds the mag disconnect in the trigger?

'Cause I took the mag disconnect out of my HP without taking the trigger out of the gun; I just punched out the retainer pin, and wiggled the disconnect out through the mag well.

I was talking about the trigger assembly pin, the one that holds the whole thing in. Which direction do you tap the mag safety pin (the one on the side of the trigger)? My HP is a new production 9mm SA FN. How do you support the trigger as not to damage it while you hammer out the pin from it?

The pins on my gun all seem to go in from the left side, so I bumped 'em out from the right (ejector port ) side.

And for a support, I just cut a piece of wood ( got an old hammer handle? ) the right size and height, then drilled a hole in it for the pin to fall into.

From there, it was lay the gun on the bench with a cloth under it, with the piece of wood in place, then smack the punch with a hammer.

A couple of minutes of wiggling ( the part, not me ) and cussing ( me this time ) later, no more disconnect. :D

Oh, and I almost forgot.... take the grips off the gun first. It'll help it lay flatter.

I've done a few of these and one tip is to use a short, stout punch. Since you're tapping a small pin, the tempatation is to use a matching punch, which is usually long and skinny. These absorb a lot of the blow. I cut one down to about 2" long and now it knocks those pins right out with one good tap.

Oh, Oh, Oh,.....let me tell you...happiness is a BHP with the mag safety removed!!!:D :D :D :D

I have had my BHP since 91, and even as a mechanical engineer, I just never got around to taking it out.

I finally did about two weeks ago and yes....I had to pound the H#!! out of the trigger pin.:banghead: I had to use a 10 oz ballpeen hammer and a wide face 1/4" punch.......drive it FROM the ejection port side to the other side.

Then compress the mechanism so you can get it through the trigger channel.
Then removing the mag safety pin is not nearly as difficult, but none-the-less, you have to hit it pretty hard.....

Oh happy day!! :) :)
