I've been urging our local sportsmen's club to host a .22 rifle accuracy shoot and finally got the board of directors to agree. We'll be doing it at the same time (shot in a different place of course) as a .22 shot card/target meat shoot.

I've searched the web looking for a .22 bullet trap, and keep stumbling in to the same one over and over... it's 10" x 11", has a little (weak looking) clip that holds the target. Price runs between $50 and $70.

Would prefer to have a little larger opening for the occasional youngster that may stray off the target. Any recommendation for under $100? Thanks in advance.

If any of you are in Southern Illinois and would like to stop by and try your luck, it's December 2nd starting @ noon. Millstadt Sportsmen's Club. Bring your rifle. :)

If you or any one you know can weld you can make a trap any size you need pretty easily. All you need is a plate of 1/4 inch steel welded at 40 degree angle to the ground on a stand. The bullets will hit the steal and be deflected into the dirt. I made one of these traps that is about 4 feet long and the about 3 feet off the ground using the plate steel and the a few pieces of re-bar welded as legs. any magnet can then be used to hold the target in the front of the opening. A warning for the user....don't use anything bigger than a 22lr on a trap like this. any dents in the steel could cause bullets to be deflected back at the shooter. I know for sure a 22lr will work fine because my trap is almost 5 years old now and has been shot...at rough guess, close to a million times. This trap can only be used outside or inside with at least 12 inches or more of sand/dirt under the trap. Replace, or dig up and add fresh dirt, after each 10 thousand shots or so because the ground below the trap may become to hard...ie packed with lead and copper... to catch bullets well...they may bounce off and cause harm to shooters. If you replace the dirt as stated, this trap is basically perfect and will last forever. I use my trap to collect the lead I shoot...which I then resell for almost $4.50 a pound(Nov 2007). not to bad...I pay $10 a box of 550rds at walmart, shoot um off and make bout about half with the lead I collect from the dirt. haha

My favorite is an old desktop tower computer. Pull out the circut cards (or leave them in it dosen't matter). Fill it with newspapers or a phone books. The bullets go in and don't come out the other side. Available at yard sales everywhere for $10-25.
