New Caliber - 300 AAC Blackout

Yeah, but some of us want some reach and 30 round capacity and AR handling. 12 gauge, 357, 44 - they don't have 460 meter range like 300 BLK.

I see some guys mention hunting with them supressed; I assume you mean non-game animals?

Interesting. It's not in TX, for game animals, but for pigs and coyotes it's ok. I'd like to see a list of the states that allow it.

Sub 40 cents a round ammo for FET-exempt govt users is already here. Reformed brass ammo for retail customers at less than 50 cents a round is a sure thing in 2012.

110 - 125 grain bullets will always cost more than 55-62 grain bullets. There is more stuff in them. This is especially true that the 300 BLK bullets are extra long to help lower drag and make them fit the magazines - so they are about as long as 150 grain 308 Win bullets - which means more expensive copper. 300 BLK has more punch than 5.56mm due to this, but it is the cheapest way to get more punch over 5.56mm. It will never be as cheap, but it will be cheap enough.

Wish I was .gov so I could play the .300 AAC game now, but oh well.
Looking forward to cheaper ammo in 2012. Guess I've gotta start saving pennies.
AR-15's are a disease man...

There is a better round out there & it has been around for over 70 years.

Barrel twist?

One of the pictures in the article says the barrel is a 1:7? (last picture right column)

Something new?

For several years I've been advised to give up my quest for a quality experience with a 7.62X39 AR platform. There are just too many issues, it seems.

I personally don't see the 300 Blackout as any sort of "Savior" of the cartridge world; for me it's just a much more sensible way to get the AK47 cartridge ballistics I enjoy so much into the AR platform.

The only negative I see right now is the price of the ammo, and hopefully that will change as more and more people take the plunge. I'm jumping into the pool myself, as I have a 300 AAC Blackout upper and ammo "in the mail." :)

I'm looking forward to playing with it.

The UMC ammo is being loaded next week.

Then in 2012 - there will be three more Remington loads introduced, not counting the ones already introduced or the upcoming Barnes ammo.

I just read this thread from start to finish. Checking out all the vids and additional information links was well worth the day it took to complete. I was not interested in the Blackout when I made my 1st AR purchase last week of a Rock River Arms LAR-15 Tactical Operator II. After completing this thread with all the Pro's and Con's, I am considering a complete upper for ease in changeover from one to the other. I first want to thank rsilvers for his time and commitment in answering "any and all" questions as some here don't know how to be as tactful as others when asking them. I also want to thank those who opposed the 300 blackout. Something worth while should have the ability to stand up to a good challenge. Keep up the good work guys because I learn a lot here. Mac

I saw no downside to 1/7, and I think it will help if someone wanted to shoot 240s.

I watched his vid. 1 minute each to trim the brass. That is after combing through ranges like a bum for the brass to begin with.
1 x 1000 / 60 = 16.6 hours.
I think pay the 100 bucks to allweatherarms.

Looks like I could spend $28 for a set of dies, trim a boatload of once fired (free range pickup) .223, resize and sell as 300 blk. Profit??

Did this when I couldn't get any factory stuff because it was on back order. Got my process down to pretty freaking quick (didn't actually time it) and it was really fun for a while.

500 Primed factory cases from Midway for $119 allows for far better use of time elsewhere

I asked this question in an older (three page) thread and it promptly died, so I'll ask it again in this more active one.

Does this thing headspace off the leade or the extractor? :)
