i heard they said the price will be comparable to an SVI....Infinity says their guns start at $4,200...I'm out of the running for this gun.
That really sucks, and I'm in the same boat. No way I'd spend that kind of money on a handgun unless I won the lottery or inherited some cash.

I did a little reading on Laugo's FB page and am following them now for updates. They are responding to comments directly there so if you want more info you may want to read through the conversations.

I saw comments confirming that the Alien pistol will use proprietary 17 round magazines. They said to start, so I'm guessing 20 rounders or more will be made at some point. Obviously it's going to be awhile though.

I also saw a comment that this is not a striker fired weapon. It has an inverted hammer similar to a Rhino revolver with a 5 lb DA pull and 2 pound SA pull. I assume the gun cycling would cock the hammer like any other hammer gun. I don't see a decocker though. However, as this gun is geared towards competition, it may not really need one. Again, these were comments in FB, so details may be sketchy, but Laugo seems to be responding directly.

I really think this design has a lot of potential for smaller defense gun applications, home defense, and more powerful chamberings. Of course they have a lot to prove before anyone in their right mind would consider these for any kind of serious use.

I really hope they can bring these to market at a reasonable price point. If they are $4200, I won't touch them. I have a good job, but not that good.

What's with the Rhino, Rhino, Rhino? That is a revolver.
Clement was building automatics with the recoil spring and most of the slide above the barrel 110 years ago. S&W picked up the layout for the .35 and later a line of .22s.

Nothing new under the sun, maybe they have combined design elements effectively.
Clement spring above barrel. OK, keeps recoil axis low.
Probably HK gas retardation, not actual gas operation. OK, allows fixed barrel.
Hammer fired but with glockish trigger safety, hmm. But 2 lb is OK. A 5 lb DA indicates it may be directed at IPSC Production.

True. I think folks are just comparing the two because of the low bore, and like I said, the inverted hammer. You're right though, there are no other real similarities.

They have to make 2000 to get on the USPSA Production list and for IDPA SSP (if the bull barrel advertising lets it at all.)

2000 isn't that hard to make, and I've heard that USPSA is potentially thinking of doing away with the list anyways as it's too hard to enforce. It would instead be replaced with just a list of prohibited features (they've already seriously lessened production restrictions lately by allowing completely aftermarket triggers).

Production is becoming less of a "budget" division and more just "10 round mag 9mm minor with no single actions or magwells".

It was going to go that way eventually anyways. If you base a division off of the concept that it has to be an "off the shelf" model of gun eventually the manufacturers just wise up and build an off the shelf version of what everyone wants.

Hmmm... watching, but not excited yet...

Seems to me that more people should be doing the recoil spring above barrel thing, but probably haven't due to problems, which means.... this will probably have problems.

You don't have to have unconventional operating systems to have "problems."
We can hope that the Alien which is A. expensive, and B. apparently directed at a competition venue, will be well developed by the time it actually hits the market.

I don't get the Rhino analogy - Rhino has a conventional hammer, but it's just hidden with a separate SA cocking piece. That Alien pistol, at least judging from the brief sight rail change video, has a hidden hammer, but no cocking piece (lever). What am I missing?

A FB commenter mentioned the trigger pull and inverted hammer.

I'll try to find the reference.

@Jim Watson
Nothing. Did a little digging, and either the message is buried somewhere, or I heard the guy in the video mention the Rhino one too many times. I apologize if I added confusion. You are correct Mizar, the Rhino uses a hidden hammer, not an inverted one.

Apparently I was tired when I read it.

I think the way it feeds is very clever, because it allows the bottom of the barrel be below the bottom of the slide (which is what limits the height of the grip on every automatic). Cy Hudson was impressed with that. However, the falling block breech face is IMHO a step too far. It only wins them a millimeter or so, but is going to hinder the reliability. Try to shoot a match with a gun that jams. In addition, the gas delay system comes with its own baggage. The gun is designed for people who have to shoot a lot in training. They aren't going to like the heat. If they wanted a fixed barrel so much, they should have used a delayed blowback with rollers or a lever.

I suppose they will get Sigourney Weaver to do a you tube promo for it. Think I will stick to 1911’s. Something maybe in 10mm.

Gee, I thought it was pretty interesting, except for the searchlight rail which seems superfluous (and ugly) on what appears to be a match gun.
Now zaitcev says it is no good. Strange, I didn't know any were actually out in use.

Yeah, if accurate, that's a hard pass. If it ends up being in the Shadow2/Hudson ballpark, I'd be interested. At four times that, nope.

Who is zaitcev - Google gives me a tennis player....
