New Marlin 39A prices?

They are pricing me out of the market. I would LOVE to own one of those but not for that price. If they were in the $300 range I would buy one in a heart beat. Too bad for me.:(

Saw one a few days ago for 460.

I really really really want a lever, but I'm not paying that kind of money for one. The Henry they had was almost 260, and they're kinda small for me.

I ended up getting a Marlin 60 w/ synthetic stock and factory scope. I'm taking it out for the first time tomorrow.

I really want a lever .22, but not at 300 plus dollars. Watch for sales. A shop here had a henry for 149 a while back, but I hesitated and lost it. Haven't seen that price in a while now.

I know a shop with a decent used one for 285, it's very tempting for sure, with the new rifles bringing close to $500

In years to come, you won't care what you paid for it. You'll just be glad you've got it.

I've got one I've had for almost 30 years. I wouldn't sell it for $500.00. (I think I paid $189.00) I saw a couple of nice used ones in my favorite dealers place yesterday for about $400.00.

One of the pawn shops in town has one that's slightly beat for $399.00. I'm tempted, but not sure what a fair price would be. He has a good return policy, so I guess I could get my gunsmith to ck. it out.

$350.00 maybe?

Catherine;

A search on GunsAmerica once again shows that if you take your time, local snooping beats internet. The prices there range from high to outrageous. My personal opinion is that you'll have better luck poking around older out-of-the-way gunshops, rural auctions, pawnshops, and reading the classifieds every day.

Sub-$400.00 39's are out there, you just have to do the field work to obtain one. For me, that's an enjoyable project in & of itself. Again, personal opinion, I'd rather have an older 39 than a box new one anyway.

The price on the 39A's has always been high relative to other shooter class 22's. It is not likely to change. 20 years ago the price was high and now it's higher. :)

Thanks again, people, for more information. I plan on local shopping. I have never bought a gun on the internet. I am NOT knocking people who do.

I want to SEE it in person IF I can for now. The last time that I checked some stores there were none available. One store had one in stock but it was gone/sold when I asked about it. I don't know if it was a special order for that buyer or not. If I don't see one in stock... I could always special order one. I think that they make some firearms in 'runs' from what I have experienced in the past plus what I was told.

Thanks again and take care!

Catherine

Catherine, I'm in your camp when it comes to buying guns: I want to hold it and look at it before I buy (unless it's new).

I bought my 39A a year or so ago. Paid $460 or so, plus $20 of diesel to drive up and get it. (Now, it'd cost me $30.)

Since you've found the 336 club, you should drop in over at one of our other Marlin clubs: the 39 Club. Great bunch of folks.

[added by edit: oh, I just dropped in on the club house for the first time in a few days and saw you've already been there. Excellent.]

My Dad found the one that I have for $150.00 a couple of years ago. This is one of those guns that seems to sell cheaper used on account of people not considering any .22 to be particularly valuable, or at least thats my theory. The 39a has rapidly become my favorite .22 to take to the range and shoot, and thats saying a lot given that I am a lifelong and diehard 10/22 fan.

price 39A

My dealer quoted 569 in nj for a new 39A and walmart quoted 500 but a three month backorder.

$500-$600 is average for a new 39A. Used can be turned up for $400 ish.

They are pricing me out of the market. I would LOVE to own one of those but not for that price. If they were in the $300 range I would buy one in a heart beat. Too bad for me.

If you want to spend $300 on a lever rimfire, buy a Henry. If you want one that will last several generations, spend the money and get a 39. Quality doesn't come cheap, even with .22's.

I paid $499 two weeks ago for mine....should have bought one for myself years ago....those who think they are too expensive now will be kicking themselves 5yrs from now for not buying one while they were only $500...
