Bought a 365 at Cabela's last night. I happened to be there when it was being put into the case. I used my points and brought it home. Only one they had apparently.

Cleaned and lubed with FP-10, I put 200 rounds through it tonight. I had 2 failures to lock back, and one FTRB. All of that happening in the first 22 rounds, smooth sailing after.

I'm pretty much a 1911 only guy these days. I carried a CZ PCR for a while, have a P226 on the nightstand, but no polymers/strikers until now. I bought a Springfield 911 .380 that already had a major issue in the first 80 rounds, went back for repair so I figured I'd give the 365 a try and so far I'm very pleased. The sights are excellent, the trigger is very predictable, and it's pretty dang accurate if I do my part. It's the only Sig pistol I've had that I don't have to hold the front sight above the rear. I shoot my 226 very well like that, but this tends to shoot a little high. All three dots lined up and it's perfect.

I checked it over after cleaning it out, and I don't see anything abnormal, but will keep an eye on it. I think I'm going to get it out again tomorrow. :)

There was a review of the P365 in this month's issue of American Rifleman and the reviewer said it was easy to ride his hand against the slide which could cause these issues. He adapted his grip a bit and the issues went away.

Any chance that your issues could be due to a similar issue?

My hands are of medium size, the 365 with the flush mag feels a little awkward, but not too bad. The pinky rest helps a lot. I'm going to try the 12 round mag today. I find it somewhat snappy as well, but I've used mostly 115s through it, but 147gr makes it much more pleasant.

I'm just the opposite: small hands that work well with small grip frames. Looking forward to checking it out sometime soon.

It should work for you then, neat little gun and packs the rounds in. I do wonder about the spring life on the mags but that's a reasonably cheap replacement.

I just can't go any smaller than a Glock 26 and shoot comfortably.

I hear ya' but oddly enough, even as small as the G26 is, I could never get a comfortable grip on the gun. And there's some other small 9mm.s out there that are too flat so I'm hoping this new SIG is just right (the Goldilocks Effect).

I have XL hands and I prefer the 10 round flat baseplate and let my pinkie dangle. 300+ rounds two hand, strong hand, and weak hand. This is really one nice gun and it will cause me to sell a couple of others

I put 150 more rounds through my 365 this evening, no malfunctions to speak of. With the 12 round mag, the failures to lock open disappeared. I shot it much more accurately today, used same mix of 115 and 147gr ammo. 147s and 115gr Fiocchi were the most pleasant as far as felt recoil goes.

I also have smallish hands with slender fingers. I need to get out to the range yet, but the grip on the P365 is nearly perfect. They shaved off some with the extended baseplate magazine on the backstrap where your palm has minimal contact with the gun and provides no grip support, but you can still get all your fingers onto it easily. It is a bit thicker than the Shield, which was a smidge too slim for my taste, but substantially more comfortable than the Glock 26. The G26 for me is... not awful, but it feels disproportionate in thickness vs. grip height.

A P365 with the height and length of a G19 would probably be a 17- to 18-round gun and be basically perfect right out of the box for me.

Finally got to handle one up close. It compared very well to my G-42. In fact, the P-365 actually fit into the Alabama holster that was specifically molded for my GLOCK. It is a little (tiny bit) wider. All the other measurements are not significantly different as far as use and handling go. It did occur to me that such a small and lightweight 9mm could be a little snappy. The good news is that my friend bought the only one we could find. They just are not out there. So, I will get to shoot his and evaluate before deciding whether to make the switch. The four questions I need to answer for myself are:

1. Will the P-365 pocket carry as well as the G-42? (I am thinking it will- or at least close enough)
2. Is the 9mm a significantly better choice than the .380? (not significantly - but yes, better)
3. Will the SIG be as comfortable to shoot as the GLOCK? (I am doubting it)
4. Will the P-365 match the G-42's reliability? (I really don't know)

And the question of 10-12 vs. 6-7 Round count is not really even a question. More is better.

And from what I have seen for my use I think I would prefer the flush over the extended magazine.

I should have all of my questions answered in a week or so.

Thanks for the thread OP!

I doubt the P365 would pocket carry as well as the G42, don't know what the loaded weight of the P365 is but the G43 loaded is 5 oz. heavier than the G42, or 29%. I'm sticking with my G42, I'm getting to the age where recoil and blast matter. The G42 will be more shootable, meaning I can put rounds on target more easily. See https://www.personaldefensenetwork.com/article/when-does-a-380-beat-a-9mm/

The author says he was at a range shooting a popular micro 9mm, and neither he nor other shooting instructors could get three rapid shots on target, such as would be needed in a SD situation. It is a mistake to push all concealed carry shooters to a bigger caliber, many are not really gun people and don't shoot that often.

Note also in the link there is less difference in performance between a .380 and .40 S&W than between a .380 and .32. I'm confident carrying my G42, 14 rounds with a spare mag. Remember also most SD incidents are said to be 3 shots, 3', 3 seconds.

From the link:

"Facts, as John Adams pointed out, are stubborn things. The important point here is that, despite what we feel or have been told, the .380 ACP is not the complete weakling everyone would have you believe. I’ve personally met two people who successfully defended themselves with a .380. Both incidents were over within three rounds, and both defenders emerged unscathed. The same could not be said of their attackers, neither of whom are with us any longer."

Paul7 - Your post is on point and a thought provoker. I really do like my G-42. Perhaps I should not be so quick to break up with her in favor of the new girl in town!

Discussion on the link was good also. Thanks.

Glad you enjoyed it, it is a topic not often discussed. I have yet to hear of a perp being hit with a .380 three times center mass and continuing the attack. I got over 'magnumitis' a long time ago, both in hunting and carry guns.

Hokkmike, when you do get to shoot the P365 I look forward to your opinion. I have about 300 trouble free rounds through mine and I have had a couple of co-workers run a mag or two. I wear XL gloves and I am stunned at the ease of shooting this little powerhouse. Up until now my Kahr PM9 was my favorite small semi but after a bit more testing, I suspect the Kahr will move to the back of the safe. I don't personally see the need for a twelve round mag and I actually shoot everything with the flat base 10 rounders. I did buy a couple of spare mags $45/each, (OUCH).
Other than that, I can't see the need for any aftermarket additions.

I will certainly share my experience. Should be able to shoot it by this weekend.

There is not any "right" answer I think for everyone on what constitutes the perfect EDC gun or even the perfect EDC caliber. It is what works for each of us, and as others have pointed out, hits are better than misses, and if you get more hits with .380 vs. 9mm, then that might be the best caliber for you. I wouldn't want to get hit by either one! :p

Personally, I have been carrying 9mm Federal HST 147 +P rounds for a long time in my SIG P938, and I see no reason to change that behavior. I can shoot them well, and from what I can tell, they are pretty highly regarded as SD rounds. I love my P938, but I am certainly interested in looking at the P365, and I am sure at some point I will. No rush, but definite interest.
