New York hunters

Black bears are very seldom a problem. If useing a small caliber rifle you have to be presice on shot placement.
Troy when will you be up this way and have some time to hunt?
Bert when do you want to get together?

I'm ready to try some other places here shortly. It would be nice to have four or five of us to see if we can get the deer moving next weekend or so.
How ever it works.

I hope I can get up there this week sometime. I got plenty of time to hunt when I get up there.

I know the small caliber can kill bears. If I see him first I'd have no problem making a kill shot, the problem is not knowing where he is and how determined he is for a red head brunch. In that case the small caliber isn't the stopper I'd want to keep from being lunch.

Sounds good guys, if either of you want to do chicken wings at the Hilcrest American Legion on this or next Friday night let me know. I think it start at 7pm maybe 6pm. I will find out. I know they set a band up around 9pm. I like to be gone before that starts.

I am making picked deer hear tonight from my brothers deer. Looking forward to trying it.
Maybe tomorrow night picked eggs.
Hear shortly I will be doing a clam night. Price Chopper has Mahogney clams fairly cheap.

I am going back out in ten minutes to sit until dark.
We will be getting some hides tanned by Sivko Fur Inc. Over in Canisteo. $20 to flesh & salt the hide and $50 to tan it.
If you guys get one and want it tanned we can drop it off dor you then my brother will pick them up when they are done in about two months or so.
You will need $20 down and the rest when the hides are picked up. I will be getting two done.

Welcome to our thread and are enjoying it.
What part of texas are you from?
My nephew retired fron the navy and bought property out side of Austin. One of these years I will get down there & go deer hunting with him

I moved to Washington State (forty miles north of Seattle.) From Upstate New York twenty years ago and come back to Upstate New York to visit family and go deer hunting.

Highland,

I'm in North Texas between Dallas and Oklahoma. Luckily I'm closer to Oklahoma than to Dallas. lol

As a Texan I have enjoyed this thread immensely. I hope all of you guys are having a great time.[/QUOTE

Welcome to our thread. I've been working during the week. I got out of work at 4 so far this week. By the time I get cleaned up changed, feed the dogs, take them out, and get my hunting gear together it's dark.
I really enjoyed the weekend hunt even though all I saw was turkeys, not human turkeys, birds.
That happened last year too but I did see about 10 deer. Didn't get a clean shot though.

I got out to work this morning. I didn't see any deer there. On a kind of funny note my boss got a ticket Sunday evening, Dec got him for riding his four wheeler with a loaded gun, cost him 150.00.
He was lucky, there were times when they might have confiscated his rifle and possibly the vehicle. Someone I know got a summons for leaning his loaded rifle against his car, yeah, in NY.

I felt a little undergunned Saturday. Had my 223 and ran across a set of bear tracks, with coyote tracks in a major deer run. After that I took my 7mm08.
I was out one morning near Monroe, early, still complete dark, and I hear something large moving and making noises no deer makes. I felt pretty vulnerable, couldn't see anything, and it was pretty close. By the time I thought to use my flashlight it was gone.

Made me wonder for just a bit if I was the hunter or the hunted.
