New York hunters

The worst deer I ever seen shot up was a little one about forty years ago down in the state land off the Earl Bosket Road in Damascus.
A guy from the City unloaded his Marlin 444 on it and hit it with every shot.

I only went up to cascade valley once this season. It's where I saw the brat and coyote tracks. I didn't see any deer but heard several shots that were close by.. I usually see about 4 or 5 doe in the area between 10 and 11:30 am.

Went out yesterday saw 3, didn't get a shot. It was 38 degrees here and rained all night. In the woods there was a low hanging fog that obscured the first 2. The third was too far away. If the rain holds off I'll try and get out again later.

Well the rain stopped, but turned to snow and heavy wind so I stayed home. I played with my grandson for the rest of the day. I figured after getting soaked yesterday, heavy wind I wouldn't be able to get a decent shot anyway.

Getting cold-soaked with wind and facing cold and heavy winds the next day.......you were probably smart to spend the time with your grandson. Deer will wait.

Good luck on the rest of the deer seaaon. If I lived back there I would get out as much as posible.
When I did live there I hunted Pennsylvania every year. Their muzzle loader season use to start the day after Christmas unles it was on a Sunday and ran about three weeks. Plus you use to beable to use unused doe tags with rifles on deer damage farms durring muzzle loader season. We had so much prime acreage to hunt back then.

I use to have a pair of beagles for hunting rabbits and a pair of blueticks for coon hunting. My hunting would start September 1st for squirrels then rabbits, grouse & coons.
Deer November, December & into January and rabbits.

I really miss the New York woods. The woods and the hunting sucks out here in Washington State.

Went out before for about 1.5 hours. Did about a one mile circle. We had a light dusting last night, so tracks were fresh. It got cold about 10° and 10-15 mph wind. Every thing had about 1/4 of ice on it. No luck on any game. There were a lot of coyote tracks and even where they were marking trees. Could be why there were no rabbit's out.

I did some scouting with the big circle found some spots to hunt, did not find any real thick stuff for rabbit's tho. See if I can get out this weekend.

I really need to get something on my ar15 to bring up there. I'll bring some buck shot next time.

Well christmas is done with for another year now New Years next week.
Happy and a Prosperous New Years guys.

I will be heading down to Olympia to the Evergreen Sportsmans Club early New Years day for the WaGuns Forum annual New Years day shoot for the day with my grandson Mason. On the way down I will be stopping at a local forum members place to pick up five pounds od powder and a few thousand large rigle primers.
On the way home we will stop by the Lacy Cablas. That store is half again bigger tyen the local Cabelas store.

Last week my brother inlaw cashed in his chips and I was given all of his ammunition which he had a lot, mostly pistol ammo.
When I got it home I had a few beers and I kind of seperated it in to the different calibers.
There was a bunch of 40 caliber and 357 Sig ammo which I do not have guns for. I was going to dispose of it then decided to just buy two guns in them calibers to shoot up all of that ammo.
I save up all of my change through out the whole year to cash in at New Years and generally buy another handgun. I generally average around $425 a
year, so i jumped on a lightly used Glock 23 in 40 caliber. I was thinking of buying just 357 Sig barrel to put on the model 23 but decided to just buy another gun. I placed a bid on a 357 Sig on Gun Brooker, we'll see were it goes. I buy mostly used guns at a decent price, very seldom will I buy a new gun.

Sorry about your brother in law.
Congratulations on your new pistol ,s, have a fun and safe trip with your grandson.

Happy New Year to all

Any of you guys get out hunting, it seems like I keep getting sick. I had the flu/virus thing for the better of 3 weeks, and now have what is starting to feel like bronchitis. It's been pretty cold that last few weeks, hope to get out soon.

No I haven't gotten out unless you count shooting squirrels in the attic. Probably won't get out until spring turkey season.

Getting sick sucks hope you feel better soon.

It seems to linger and will weaken us and is sometimes easily passed back and forth among our clans. Take good care, troy fairweather.

We had the flu stuff here, my grandson got so I was ellected to stay home & watch him.
I contacted it and it went from the flu to pneumonia. Just started taking horse pills Wed. night.

I have a couple of gray squirrels running out in the yards that I will contend with when I get feeling better.

As far as anything hunting related i traded a 45acp Glock 41 got a Ruger 77 blue with synthetic camo stock in 25/06. The 25/06 came with four boxes of factory ammo, fifty pieces of reloads and about thirty pieces of brass that was resized to 25/06 from 30/06 brass.

The other day I was looking on gun broker and bid on a Ruger 77/44mag. Stainless with black synthrtic stock. I put a $600 bid on it and took the bid at $586.56. So I borrowd $400 against the other 25/06 Ruger 77 and set the payment out for the 44 magnum.

I can't waith for the National Handgun Resip to come about so I can bring back rifles for deer hunting along with a pistol in the same caliber.
I have a lot of my rifle calibers covered with revolvers, T/C Contender or T/C Encore.
I don't need to many more T/C barrels to have everything covered.

You guys should get some decent, warm weather to go chase some small game before the end of the season.

You have had good luck with them rugers lol. The 44s are fun,

Thanks I've shot my share of attic squirrels lol. I hope to hunt turkey this spring, I have to work on a 2 3/4 Turkey load for my old Stevens, that 32'' barrel should reach out.

I use to love going spring turkey hunting in May. I have had coyotes come in while calling and deer also checking things out.
There use to be turkeys everywhere twenty yeers ago, but them were the good old days.
Now you guys have coyotes everywhere these days. Before it was something to see one, now they are an everyday item and very vocal.
Once the weather gets decent out west here I should go grab some dead calves for bait stations to watch over for the coyotes. A guy I know shot like twenty-two coyotes over dead dairy cow calves befor a cougar showed up to eat off of them. Once the cougar showed up it took three more dead calves before he shot the cougar. About an eight year old male cougar. He had a wall rug made out of it. Next time I see him I will ask him if he ate it.

I have a ton of reloading stuff to do but don't feel good enough to do anything.

We have lots of coyote down here but the turkey dot seem affected but them, maybe because they can't climb trees lol. I have the luck to see all the deer I want when Turkey hunting. That gets old quick, pretty much why I have not hunted them in a few years, plus I trout fish then.
