No more striker-fire guns for me!

Thank you sir!

I have it on good authority that it was part of an order of 2500 pistols for the West Berlin Police Department. The perfect choice really in that (1) it was a pistol many German police officers might already be familiar with, and (2) It was made in France and not in Germany.

I carry a full sized steel frame pistol for more than 6 hours, Monday to Friday and on the weekends sometimes for a whole day if I'm fishing, or hiking somewhere with the family, but despite the odds I still manage to survive somehow... So it's not the end of the world you know.

I own a Beretta 96, a Taurus PT99, a Sig P229, a couple of Tanfoglio CZ75 copies, and a Turkish CZ75 compact copy.

They are all terrific pistols. If I had to start shooting service pistols in a competition, they would all be near the top of my list (especially the Tanfoglios).

However, I am not willing to carry anything that large and heavy. I have a few nice carry pieces for that. I am just not willing to carry pounds of steel instead of ounces of plastic.

Nothing really against them but I'm an all steel and hammer gun fan. I have owned over a half dozen Poly guns but never really did anything for me. I'm done to three classics in my opinion. Beretta 92FS Compact, Sig Sauer P229 Nitron Compact, and a newly acquired CZ P75D PCR. Maybe I'm just getting old and Glocks, although great guns, should be left to the younger!View attachment 837824

I unloaded G26 and PPS. Now I have no guns half made of plastic. I did not plan this, but when I cut the heard that what left the barn.

Each to their own. I own a fair amount of hammer fired pistols but could not imagine life without my Glock 19 and Walther PPS. My Glock 19 is a Gen2 that I bought new in the early 90s and has never ever failed me nor has my PPS.

As always go with what ever you are comfortable and confident with.

I like them all. My Glock 26 is sure nicer to carry once the heat gets over 90 degrees, but I tend to favor metal frame hammer fired guns.

But mine gotta be SAO, else give me a striker.

As for a 1911, I've owned two back some years ago, a Colt and a Kimber. Absolute classics but I only collect and shoot 9mm. A 1911 in 9mm is a mortal sin! Now a pristine Hi-Power is another story!

Gotta admit I've just been converted to the dreaded 9mm 1911. Shoots like its fatter brother just faster, and cheaper.

My Hi Power is nice except that the hammer is to "jabby" to my ribs for carry and my instinctive high grip (from years of Glock and 1911s with beavertails) means any work from the holster means a bloody hand by end of range trip.

Oh, and even with with mag disconnect out the trigger is over 6 lbs. At least it breaks clean so I can work with it.

Oh, also also, it hates 147 grain ammo (terrible grouping), which is my favored carry and range weight. Great with 115s ans 124s though, twist rate maybe?

Ahhhh, the dreaded BHP hammer bite. I bobbed my hammer with a dremel tool. Not a professional job, but no more bloody hand. I do have a replacement hammer to switch out if need be. PhotoOp 20180218_145538.jpg

Sadly it's not the hammer but the slide that bites me.

For strictly range work I can adjust my grip fine but from the holster too much muscle memory takes over. I'd need a lot of retraining or a beavertail (which I've considered) to make it work.

WOW! That is a high grip. :what:
Dang it's pricey to extend that beaver tail. A band aid is much more affordable.

I broke in G26 and PPS by shooting good number of rounds. I had one failure in G26 and none in PPS. I let them go because they could not compete in size and weight with the R9. The S&W 940 went because it shared same afflictions as G26 and PPS. Couple of other shortfalls were 5-shot capacity and heavy trigger pull. I'm still holding on to 11oz S&W revolver due to low weight and very good trigger pull especially in single-action mode.

IMO this is the best defensive handgun on the market at the moment. All the things that make the Glock 19 great but without the terrible trigger system. I have the decocker installed on mine.

There are many worthy competitors now including: PPQ, GPQ100,...The low budget competitor is very capable SAR 9.

Personally, I do not feel comfortable carrying any handgun with potential energy stored in the fire control system. It is sad to say as I enjoy shooting M1911's.

I have a Glock 17 that is fun to shoot, but it will never grace my self defense pistol rotation.

Currently, I use an HK P30SK V3 or an S&W J-frame revolver for my self defense pistol. It took several years to master the double action trigger pull but I feel quite comfortable with both style guns these days.

I have no problem using "plastic fantastic" semi-auto guns for my self defense guns as long as they are SA/DA actions.

I got my P07 last year and liked it as soon as I picked it up. Felt very solid and substantial but not too heavy and the grip frame design was a perfect fit for my hand. The double action trigger pull was alright but it was the single action trigger that sold me on the gun. That I could convert the decocker to a cocked and locked safety was like icing on the cake!
