Ohio Lawmakers Introduce Constitutional Carry Bill

Take a look at the number of CCW permits denied and revoked in Ohio from 2010 to 2013

It should be noted that some of the revocations are because the licensee died or moved out of state. Not every revocation is because of a law violation or other act of incompetency.

Rooter-

I don't believe in legislating to the lowest common denominator. There will always be certain people that are irresponsible and can't be trusted with certain freedoms. In all, most of my experiences with CHL permit holders that I have met in Ohio have been positive.

The problem with the increased requirements that you specify is that they just make it that much more difficult for people of limited means to be able to defend themselves outside of their home. Increasing training and licensing is mostly just another inconvenience for you or me but means that some of the people that could use a CHL the most would either become criminals by carrying without one, or go without that protection. I think it would just be tightening up the laws to address problems that don't exist.

Hold people responsible for breaking current laws but let them decide the best method of training and education to stay safe.

Bah - look at Vermont.
The training does get sleazy when it is mandatory. That's how mandatory training always ends up.
Mandating more training won't make better training happen anyway. The current required course is a joke as it is and Ohio has more training required than many states already.

Dump it, dump the entire worthless permitting process, too. If you want people to get more training, offer a good class at a reasonable price. Assuming that the mandated training will have any value is a mistake. Assuming that the only training/practice a citizen does is a mandated class is also a mistake.

I'm pushing this with my elected things. I suggest all Ohioans do so as well. And push on the CC reform bill, too.

There's really no excuse for NOT sending an EMail to your legislators, I can do it in about the time it takes to bang out a forum post.

All very, very good points

Rooter,
Again, show me the statistics. And you rail against Hi-Points; have you ever been broke and scared? Well, neither have I, but lots of folks have.

And while an internet pissing contest is worthless, I've been a firearms instructor in the military, law enforcement and civilian life, helped trained large SWAT teams, have a graduate degree, and instructor certifications in about 20 police topics/programs. I hold instructor credentials or equivalent (Shodan +) ranks in four martial arts, as well as police DT and knife/counterknife. I've survived three knife attacks.

But who cares? Your elitist, 'for me, not for them' stinks, all rhetorical value aside. You can check out if you like, but you've shown your colors.

In Kentucky we don't need ANY training nor any permission to open carry or carry in the glove box, center console or any compartment in the car. But the minute that firearm gets concealed by a piece of cloth, then a carry permit is needed.

We have had open carry here without any wild west scenarios for two hundred years http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-672350.html
Training isn't required for open carry, so why is it required for concealed carry? As for Hi Points, yes I own a Hi Point .45acp and it is a good shooter and has never jammed.

Kentucky isn't the only state that allows for open carry without a permit, permission or training. In fact there are a number of states that allow open carry without government permission.

Once again, good luck to our friends across the river and hopefully we will try again for constitutional carry here too in Kentucky.

On the surface, it sounds really great. However, how would that affect people from Ohio going into other states? Right now, 31 states honor my state's (SC) CWP. If I am now longer required to have a CWP in my state to carry, it appears to me that I would only be allowed to carry in the open carry states. Right now there is only four. Is my thinking flawed?

Not that this bill has even a .o1% chance, but. Well why not run it like the faulty Ohio insurance program as is other states. All that's required is, you to say you've got insurance. However, if there's a wreck, you got to provide proof.

So the permit process could go away...but if in a shooting incident you should have to provide credentials you had some type of training. Wouldn't that satisfy all parties.

That is the brief of OH insurance law!!

No wait...there's still a small fractional portion of people who misguidely believe ''freedom'', means, ''no responsibility'' of actions whether current, past, present. Quite the contrary, with freedom comes great responsibility!

DT, this is my last response unless you start paying my billable rate.

Again, show me the statistics.
What statistics are you referring to? What did I say that requires statistics to validate? Quote me.

And you rail against Hi-Points; have you ever been broke and scared? Well, neither have I, but lots of folks have.

IRRELEVANT...BUT...Hi Points are cheap bricks, period (and, no, I don't care to hear your Hi Point stories...I'm sure you defended our nation from ninjas with a Hi Point and a pen knife...yeah, that's it...it was a knife fight...number four for you....LOL). Carry one and bet your life on it daily if you choose. I have the means to choose alternatives. Yes I've been scared, just not overly broke, although I did eat Ramen in college regularly.

Your elitist, 'for me, not for them' stinks, all rhetorical value aside.

Show me where I said anything regarding "for me, not for them" and quote me directly.

1. You have been insulting and disrespectful from the onset.
2. You have attempted to place words in my mouth and implied that I said things I have not.
3. I'm surprised you didn't try to pass yourself off as an attorney or tier one operator. The fact is, your "qualifications" clearly do not align with your behavior. You claim to hold a graduate level degree, yet you cannot comprehend statements and lack the ability to think logically. You claim to be a veteran, instructor, and martial arts practitioner, yet you do not exhibit the qualities these endeavors instill in a man. I find that suspect.
4. You have taken my original post and run quite a tangent.

I thank those who had the intellect to hold meaningful discourse, and I thank DT for reminding me that all types have access to the internet.

I've made my point, and I think folks will judge for themselves whose argument carried more weight. Your insults and accusations make you unworthy of further effort.
