Open Carry Unsafe?

Before CCW in MO, I use to carry open a lot. I live on a farm and carry open all the time. On those little pesky trips into town I would go with my gun on. Very rural town, gun friendly and no problems. I stood in line at the Dollar General store with one of the K-9 deputies one day. Nothing said. I go in the grocery store, auto parts store, hardware store and co-op with no problems and a few chuckles. So it's like adult diapers, do I open carry? Depends.

Only places I open carry is inside my home, or inside my neighbors (he's a gunnie too), or in-between (inside a three-sotry apartment building). The most I've open carried is inside a restaurant (in a booth with my gun side facing the wall) or taking the trash to the dumpster (25 yd. walk from the door across the parking lot).

I'd consider it based on the simple fact it would make my clothing choices a little easier, or allow me to take my jacket off indoors in the winter. However, the LEOs around here aren't real keen on the idea, and PA law doesn't necessarily forbid it, but doesn't state in Crimes Code that it's allowed (big gray area there)!

I too find the difference between concealed carry and open carry to be a minor issue. Concealed does give an advantage of a BG not knowing you're carrying. However, if you need to use the gun, it's too late; it's going to become presented, and you should already be looking for/taking cover.

Just my $.02 on this subject.
