Over 60 yrs old carry?

I'm 70 and too old to carry. Between the tremors and bad eyes me using a handgun in a threat situation would be a dicey prospect. I've asked my wife to carry she's 29 and has a steady hand and steely eyes.

Get'em darlin:) :) :)
THANK GOD you've got her!

I wonder where she went after I kicked her out...

61 and I'll play.... for years it was a 1911 of one sort or another, mostly Commanders. In recent years I've been carrying a variety of Glocks: the remarkable G30, G23 for awhile, also G19, G17 RTF, G22 Gen4, and on occasion, the wonderful G21SF. I have smaller guns (Kahrs, G26, S&W snubbies, etc.) but I'm not really motivated to carry them. The larger Glocks are easy to carry and offer so much as defense/carry guns that I'm totally content with them.

I do occasionally carry a 640 or 642 in a coat pocket - but as an addition to one of my Glocks. It's tough for an assailant to get the drop on you when you've already got your hand on a 640 in your coat pocket and can unleash a defensive volley without even pulling your hand out of your pocket!

I suppose as I get older I may gravitate toward carrying the G26 just because it's smaller and lighter. And maybe even, someday far from now, I may be content just carrying my PM9! ;-)

In spite of having some cherished S&W and Colt revolvers.... I can much more easily shoot faster, more accurately, and for a longer period of time with a semi-auto Glock.

I'm 63. I got a CCW at 59, my first gun was a Colt Python .357 which I carried for a bit. Too big and heavy really, and they're valuable, didn't want to mar it up with regular carry. I shoot it very well and no problem with recoil however.

I now carry mostly a Colt snub, occasionally a Colt 1911, and just traded a Glock 45 for a Beretta 92FS 9mm, (34 oz. unloaded), and will carry that in rotation with a snub. I use Perry Suspenders ( http://perrysuspenders.com/ ) with a heavy gun and Perry's are great, just clip to the belt, on or off in a second.

Being over 60 doesn't mean anything unless your hands are arthritic or something. Otherwise, same as with anybody: carry an effective SD caliber - from a .380 to .45ACP in semi-auto, and .38 Spl to .357 magnum in a revolver, (my opinion) - and something you are comfortable shooting and carrying.

You're not different being over-60 than under-60 unless you have medical conditions - (and any age can have those).

Good luck!

I'm 50ish so the only thing I will say is this, statistically someone 60+ is seen as an easy target to criminals, so surprise the Hell out of em with whatever you got! :D

Retired LEO and turn 64 in 2 months.

I carry a Glock 23 90% of the time.

The rest is a Kimber CDP II,or Glock 27,or Glock 19.

And a BUG when anywhere that might be questionable,then its a G-27 or a S&W 442.

And of course reloads for all.

Semi-retired farmer ,70 yrs young, Carry Colt magnum carry..

most of the time IWB, but also carry a Colt Agent 38 sp in the hot months.

What I carry in my old age.

I'll be 69 next month. I started carring an old .22 mag. SA revolver back in the 70s; was transporting money to the bank and just kept it on seat beside me. I switched to a little .25 ACP in the late 70s and carried it in my pocket. I retired in 2004 and haven't carried since. When I get my CCW permit in about 1-2 weeks, I'll start carring a Bersa Thunder .380 CC.

I'm 71 years old. I carry a Ruger, every day. Most days it is a SP101, 2.25" .357 mag. full of WWB 110 gr. HJLHP's. Or I carry an LCR .38 special, with 110gr. LHJHP's.
On occasion I carry a GP100 3", .357, with .125 gr. JHP's.

ETA.......I'm not "Old" yet. I'm retired on 13 acres w/a 1acre pond, out in the Woods, very rural. Living a good Life.

At almost 67 I've been blessed with good health. I need glasses to read small print otherwise I am good. I still can hold my own in hand to hand with most men(age helps as being a pushover). I don't need but carry a walking stick or hickory cane and have trained for over ten years with one. I carry an assisted opener behind my belt buckle for either hand and will have a 45, g23 or LC9 on me. I still believe the best defense is a fast, hard offence.

Most frequently, stainless Springfield Champion .45 ACP in a Milt Sparks SS or VMII or Star M43 9x19 in a SS. Keltec P32 in a Don Hume pocket rig as BUG and "always".

Glock in 9mm or a J frame. Exact one depends on mood. Which is mercurial at this age bracket.

For some dress circumstances though, an LCP or NAA mini.

Get off my lawn, you rotten kids.

I'm over 60.
I carry a .38 Spl M637 or a .357 M60 w/3” most of the time.
Occasionally I carry one of my 1911s.
If I'm at the farm a either a Blackhawk .357 or a Blackhawk .44 Spl.

Age 68. I live on forty acres and am completely surrounded by farms and open country

Daily carry..... .22 Ruger Mark II, 5 1/2 inch bull barrel, in a hip or shoulder holster or laying on the front seat of my truck.

Daily carry during hunting season .. a .357 Mag Ruger GP100, 6 inch barrel, or a .44 Mag Ruger Redhawk, 7 1/2 inch barrel, both in shoulder holsters.

Camping, etc..... .357 Ruger Speed Six , 2 3/4 inch barrel, shoulder or hip holster.

Town... .38 S&W Model 36, hip or pocket holster. Although I have a CCW permit, I do not carry concealed very often.

"Slightly" over 60 here (LOL), when I carry it's my trusty old Ruger Security Six.

Bought my first handgun in 68, S&W Model 36. Then came the wonder 9's and I changed up to a S&W Model 39. All was well untill that Miami thing and went to a Kimber Pro Carry in 45 APC. For whatever reason, a few years back, I decided the Kimber was just too big. Back to the Smith J frame! Don't sell guns, just add to my limited collection.

Well, I turned 61 last April and I'm still carrying what I have been for 2 years. An HK45CT pistol in a Raven Concealment System holster. I find I shoot it very well and it carries concealed easily.

Glock 26, and one or two of my five Snubs. Reloads for each gun, multi tool, Scorpion flash light, pepper spray, extra batteries for light, ear plugs, wallet, money clip, and cell phone. All day every day.

62 here. Most usually I conceal-carry an M&P340CT loaded with Gold Dot .357 magnum (short barrel load). I occasionally conceal-carry a Walther P99C AS 9mm, Beretta 92FS 9mm, or Colt 1911 .45ACP. The Colt is the one I shoot the best and enjoy the most.

Interesting and educational thread. I have about five years to go, and it is good to see that there is a lot of variety in what folks 60+ carry.

At first it looked as if most turn to mouseguns, but others carry full sized pistols well into their golden years.

Gives me some hope that I can continue on my current trajectory after I turn 60 and beyond.

God Bless each and every one of you for continuing to exercise your Constitutional rights.
