while you are trying to remember where you car is located in the parking lot.
This "geezer" drives a 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck, and not only is it white (like millions of other Dodge Ram pickup trucks) it came equipped with one of those devices that makes it drive itself to a different location from where I leave it in a parking lot. ;)

I used to work security at a mall, and one of my favorite activities was driving old people around looking for "stolen" vehicles. Had a ring of car thieves stealing cars from the Macy's lot and parking them in front of Sears.

Open or concealed, permitless carry is pretty much a joke ( unless you live in the sticks ). It's a felony to be within 1,000 feet of a school with a firearm ( unless you have a carry permit ). If you live in any decent sized city, look on a map, locate the schools, and draw a 1,000 foot perimeter around them. See how easy it is to navigate around town, without breaking that law.

I think the right for open carry should be made legal in all fifty states. On the other hand, with some exceptions, I don't think carrying a handgun exposed for all to see is a very good idea.

Gonna caveat that with “in most places”.

There are places, such as where I used to live in Alaska, that a hunting rifle or even an AR slung on a 4 wheeler or snowmachine is completely accepted around town.

Yep, I was basically referring to the urban Long Arm OC folks like the Chipolte bros. When I travel with my rifle and the car brakes down, I probably don't hike but let the systems call for help or if I walk, it's cased. Now again this isn't for bear, Bigfoot, etc. country. I should have been clearly. I have OC'ed with a handgun and slung rifle when looking for dread beasts on private land in TX.

There's legal and stupid. So in TX, you are legal if you cover your genitals and butt hole. A guy used to wear a flesh colored thong and go riding a bicycle in the fancy upscale neighborhood to get the gentry to call the law. Funny and legal. It would have been legal for him to ride around the school bus like that.

So back to the issue, some states will get on board. Some states in reaction to Bruen are passing laws that ban practical carry by making all businesses having to post a sign allowing carry - this includes parking lots. With other sensitive locales, carry was destroyed. Scotus did NOT deal with this tactic in Bruen. They have refused to take up TROs for some dominance crap legal weeds or they don't care.
I’ve seen that naked man in Austin several times. And yes, people called the police on him

Personally never open carried. I don’t want to let the bad guys know I’m carrying and I’m not going or able to fight off several people because they want to grab my gun.

I hope it doesn’t continue to every state. It is a welcomed development.

Forgive me for asking this, I'm not trying to be a smart-ass but how much difference can the thickness of your trousers make?

It isn't the thickness of the trousers but the level at which the gun's butt is located. The buscadero-style rig I have puts the butt about 2" below the point of my hip, about 6" below my waistband. That makes drawing a 4" revolver much easier. The real problem is finding pants in my waist size - and then adding 2" for the IWB holster. And I perspire so profusely in the summer that the gun would be in bad shape by the end of summer.

One of the unintended advantages of switching from a steel 1911 to a Glock is that the Glock really doesn't care about my sweat. I had to carefully wipe down and re-oil my CCW every day while living in Alabama - and there were still spots under the grip panels that developed rust!

So if your car dies & you have to walk, do you lock your rifle in the trunk or do you sling it on your shoulder to get it home? You shoulder it so the car doesn't get robbed, right? Open carry needs to be leagal everywhere for obvious reasons.

I once was hunting here in Michigan with a double barrel shotgun (more like just walking in the woods with a gun becuase I never got anything and didn't really know how to hunt anyway). I didn't know about open carry or any of that. It was around maybe 1980 or so. I had walked a good way from where i parked (miles). I broke the shot gun down and was holding the two pieces in one hand and had my thumb out at the side of the road with the other hand. Someone gave me a ride. Maybe I was not even legal thumbing a ride with a gun in hand.
