I shot CAS for years. I love lever guns. I sold a couple of my CAS lever guns. I still have one that I will never part with. A Winchester 94 Trails End .357.
A while back I decided I wanted a lever gun in a cartridge match to my S&W 25-15 .45 Colt.
I am
pretty sure I want the Henry Big Boy X model in .45 Colt. I handled one at my LGS and I really liked it. Smooth handling and smooth action.
I am not completely certain so I am waiting to see what the new Marlin 1894 Dark Series models will be like. If they make an 1894 that looks like their 1895 SBL in stainless with a gray laminate stock I will be in a quandary. I can’t afford one of each.
I must say that the ability to remove live cartridges out of the mag tube at the opening is a very BIG plus in the Henry’s favor.
S&W advertises that their 1854 (that action looks suspiciously like a Marlin 336 or a Henry) has a removable magazine for unloading but I haven’t seen this demonstrated.
Henry has been around long enough and their rifles are very reliable and I have yet to find an owner that doesn’t like their Henry, so Henry is at the top of my list right now.
