If you can see a light at the end of the tunnel it is probably an oncoming train!

Realities:

Only hard-core MoveOn types really like Hillary. And they really liked Kerry, or at least they pretended they did when Dean melted down. No one else likes Hillary. She doesn't come across as a leader, either. She comes across as a petty, vindictive bitch who lusts for power for power's sake.

Only New Yorkers like New Yorkers. 9/11 is over. We still have good feelings towards the firemen, because they're earthy people. But otherwise, NYC has to understand that the rest of the US doesn't all wish we lived there; most of us thank God daily that we don't. Rudy Giuliani's appeal is VERY limited, although he does show some semblance of leadership.

I don't like McCain much. He's a statist and he should be imprisoned for his role in the gross violation of our civil liberties called "campaign finance reform." His wanting to hamstring our intelligence agencies with an absolute and public "no torture" policy is just plain stupid. But how many voters really know much about him, other than that he's a Republican who doesn't just do as the Bush administration bids him to do? That combo could be a winner with the swing voter. Seriously.

Who was the last Senator who ran for the White House and won? JFK? And he ran against VP Nixon? (JFK did look good on that newfangled TV set tho' didn't he?)

I tend to look at the various state Governors as best potential Presidential Candidates in lieu of Senators.
Pickin's are Slim with None walkin' out the door.

Richardson (NM) as a dem, Perry (TX) and Pataki (NY) on the repub side all have potential, as does Bush (FL) but that family name will take a while to cool down... which is unfortunate as he's probably the best of the bunch.

Clinton has got to run. Plan on it. Maybe Lynn Swann will be elected as the Repub Gov for PA and he can throw his Steeler's Helmet into the fracas. I mean, we elected Ron Reagan, Arnie and Jesse Whatsisname as Gov of (MN).

Polls mean some things to some people, depending on the questions asked, their phrasing and the number of persons polled (as well as time of day/year/age, etc). It's still early.

ArmedBear...

Yeah, I'm gettin' downright liberal in my dottage.:)
BTW, thanks a lot for making me look up "bloviate". When I first saw the thread title, I thought that it was about cow flatulance!

The election for the 08 POTUS will determine just how far off to the funny farm the Demorats have gone. If they run a sound reasonable candidate that appeals to some Red states like Evan Bayh of Indiana, Mark Warner, or even Bill Richardson, I as a Republican will admit defeat is at hand. If they are dumb enough to run Hillary I'll be grinning from ear to ear unless it means Giuliani or "Maverick" McCain:( . I'm hoping Condi runs or Sen. George Allen of Virginia.

Remember:
Gore almost won. Only a fluke of vote distribution saved us.
Kerry almost won. Only a few unmuzzled McCain-Feingold exemptees saved us.

Both were dweebs and fulfilled the role well, having been inept Senators and laughable candidates - yet were very nearly President.

Hillary wants this far more than any here can realistically imagine. She has practically been President. She and her supporters, impassioned devout Feminists, see this as the the ONLY, FINAL chance to get the big one: install an extreme leftist Feminist as President. They control most of the media outlets; McCain-Feingold muzzled the other side (remember, the only effective opposition to Kerry was the "swift boat veterans" - a tiny group exempt from McCain-Feingold).

Hillary has been planning for 2008 for DECADES. She has the 900 FBI files, devout media adoration, abject near-worshiping followers, a motivating closetful of skeletons ("you next?"), and a plan on par with the greatest vote frauds ever.

Given that most Dems will vote for her blindly, all she needs is to enthrall, persuade, buy, or resurrect less than 5% of voters.

Be afraid. Be very afraid. :what:

May I heartily recommend a book by a couple of English authors about the rise of the conservative movement in the US: The Right Nation. Read it, it will make you feel better.

Yes, Gore ran a close election. The only problem is that he managed to lose an election that should have been very close to a sure thing. Clinton had all the Democratic and middle of the road votes sewn up after eight years. The economy was in wonderful shape. There _were_ some big problems that we would discover after 2000 but when the election happened, an incumbent VP should have been a shoo in. It's astonishing that he lost.

What happened? The GOP ran a candidate who the base believed in as a true conservative. So the base was secure. All Gore had to do was to run as Clinton. Just take all those moderate positions. Even if some of them seem like Republican positions. But no.... he tried to run as more liberal than Clinton. He ultimately couldn't even get the support of his home state! Eight years of being the VP to a very popular President and he can't even win the South. Losing that election was a VERY BAD sign for the Democratic Party.

Kerry wasn't as close. Not even. But he did the same thing. He couldn't force himself to run with the Clinton/DLC positions. Just had to run as a liberal Democrat. When he tried to look moderate (as when he went hunting) he ended up looking stupid.

Anyway, what's important here is the whole national movement. The conservatives are firmly in control of the House and Senate. The GOP members of today actually vote in much more conservative ways than they did 30 years ago. Far fewer RINO's. The GOP has made BIG gains across the nation in governors and state legislatures. The GOP could lose the Presidential election of 2008 and it would barely create a ripple in the trend. The Presidential election is the one the Democrats have the best chance at. But it just doesn't matter if they can't win back some of the other institutions and they just can't do it. The water is all running the other way.

Who will the GOP nominate? It will be a true conservative. The true believers run the primaries and they aren't going to pick some old style Rockefeller Republican. If I had to put some money on it right now, I think Newt Gingrich is running a very effective stealth campaign. Going on NPR and other news shows and talking about his ideas. He could just totally explode onto the GOP scene. He's a truly first class mind and it would be a nice change to have somebody that smart, educated, and dedicated to the true principles of the ideology as the national leader! He would be a very different President than George W. If Newt actually gets into the primaries as a candidate, I may actually do some volunteer work.

While i'll be voting libertarian, i think clinton stands a good chance of winning the election.

John mccain is :barf: rudy guiliane i dont know much about, but seeing as he ran NYC...i wouldnt vote for him.

I actually think Condilizza (sorry for buthcered spelling) would be a good choice.

This sucks, 2008 is really looking like a wasteland. I think all the good leaders are in the business world or they have left the country already.

I really wish the republican party would pull its head out of its ass and realize that it needs to run at least somewhat conservative candidates to win an election. Not McCain. If the dems run someone who can do an even halfway decent job of pretending to be moderate, the conservatives will just stay home. What would be the point of bothering to vote if your choice is between Hillary and McCain? Better to just quit your job and live off savings for a few years to see what happens to the economy. You can move to canada and live off their social welfare system lol illegals ruining the country.

Conservatives have gotten cornholed by two consecutive bush presidencies, you would think we would take a hint and look elsewhere for conservative values.

Then again, who in this country even does a good job of even sounding like a conservative? So many Republicans fall about 50 yards short of a touchdown and the decent conservatives are all busy in the other branches. (Tancredo, Ron Paul, Coburn, Janice Rogers Brown) Do we have anyone with executive experience? We really need a conservative version of Howard Dean.

Somehow, the Dems picking Clinton to run in 2008 seems sorta like the Reps picking Ann Coulter :D I don't know why that struck me, but it did.

I might be voting 3rd party as well. At least I could go to bed with a clear conscience...

<shakes head in disgust>

Still arguing which of the two evils in the two-peas-in-a-pod party to vote for.

Sorry I'll be "throwing away" my vote to the Libertarian again.........unless Condi Rice runs.

I though Kerry :barf: was running again. What's the difference. Both parties or so pissed at (Bush) republicians it's probably an automatic shoe-in for any Democrat to win the presidency. :banghead:

Giuliani is scum

Giuliani is an anti-gun, groveling elitest scum sucking piece of trash.

I would like him to become President, it would wake a lot of people up.

I predict that before the next election is over - we're going to be wishing President Bush had stayed in office.

Not a chance. Nobody mentioned can damage me and my liberty as much in four years as el Presidente Jorge Shrub will do in eight. :fire:
