I may have posted this elsewhere in the past i believe....
The only reason i am proud of it is because i put the rifle together myself... It shoots better than any other firearm i own... Better than me for sure....
Up to this point I'd done some minor smithing, some rebarreling and bedding and various machine work on other firearms but never a complete build... so, all of the barrel and receiver machining and blueprinting (it isn't sleeved or oversize threaded), bedding, stock work, including recheckering and finishing etc etc etc.... Only thing i didn't do was the bluing work... 700 Remington (originally an SPS that honestly was machined well to begin with right from Big Green), Douglas Match Grade XX tube cut to 24" with a Std crown, 1:12 twist, chambered in 35 Whelen AI with Intentional "excessive" headspace. Uses a stock remington trigger group that has been turned down as far as possible for consistancy... just over 3 lb... 4.5 - 14 x 40 AO Leupold Vari-X III on QR rings and bases...
I can only get just over 100 yds out of my place... The next closest backstop is about 700 yds behind the house across the field and that's the discarded bedding (sand and poop) from the dairy farm across the road... havn't had an opportunity to let her sail at anything longer... hopefully this summer...
Last 5 out of it before 2006 firearm deer season (Nov 2006)
Some load development targets from late 2005....
