taurus44,
very nice, so overall you would asy that you are happy with springer precision and the work they did? and you would recomend them to others? thanks.

Glock 17 with extended slide release, BCI and Mepro night sights. Other than that, it is bone stock.

Plan to upgrade to a Glock 34 when finances allow.

I just took the extended slide stop lever off my glock today. In the match today, my high "thumbs forward" grip hit it causing premature slide lock 4 times.

I love my XDs! The work done by Springer Precision and Canyon Creek has been top-notch on all three of my guns (I have a trigger-job and TFO sights on the little sub-compact, too ;)).

Not only would I recommend them (Springer Precision and Canyon Creek), they are the ONLY two smiths I would recommend for custom XD work. They know the XDs and have excellent reputations in the XD "community".

I got in a rush to have the SureSights swapped for Dawson Precisions on my XD-9 Tactical, and I took it to a local 'smith thinking it would be a simple operation. Needless to say, he mangled the install and now the slide is on its way back to Springer precision to have everything fixed. :(

SSP - CZ 85 Pre B
ESP - Tanfoglio Model "L" 9MM
CDP - Norinco 1911
- Para SSP (When shooting Stateside). I can't bring my Norinco into the U.S.

My IDPA gun

Just picked it up today, this is what I will be using for awhile.

To quote EERW, "compensators and porting are not allowed in IDPA..it is meant for guns that one would carry for self-defense".

Then where does this fit in? http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e17/trickyvic/DSC01490.jpg (Photo courtesy of, and stolen from TrickyVic)

I'll admit, much of this looks like a ton of fun. Challenging even. I have never shot IDPA. I tried some IPSC some 17 or so years ago. Timing in my life wasn't right to stick with that discipline. And, I've never even read the rules for IDPA. Still, I have to go back to what EERW said, as has been my understanding of this sort of competitive shooting. OK, "Here's what you carry. How good are you with it?"

I don't know a LEO that carries 6+1 full mags on his belt! Do you? Kydex holsters and angled mag pouches..? Most of us have a cylinder or mag full, and M A Y B E another under the seat of the car or stuffed in a belt for our carry pistol used for self-defense. Now, if one is expecting a fight, well, we've all got extra mags and stockpiles of ammunition. Right?

I'm gonna use one of my wife's lines.. "I don't get it."

Falling plates, Bowling pins, Bullseye, Duello, Silloete, Cowboy Action, even Benchrest shooting... Now those I understand. Fun is fun, but not under the fake rules of "shooting guns that one would carry for self-defense". But he that carries some 70-100+ rounds of ammo needs to learn how to hit the target with the first shot. Or, the stages fired need to have some rules about how many rounds are expelled. (maybe these rules exist, I'm sure someone will tell me...)

I know, I've hyjacked this thread, That really wasn't my intent, but it looked like it was meandering anyway. I'm stir'n the pot. (so I might learn somethin)

Jack, try looking at either an IPSC or IDPA rulebook. Then get back with me about the six mag, limited round count, hitting targets with the first shot ect..

In IDPA you are allowed two mags on your belt. Maximum rds in mag (SSP/ESP 10 + 1 in the pipe), CDP (8 rds + 1 in the pipe), Revolvers 6 rds.

For legal holsters/mag holders go to IDPA website information is there in simple terms.

Take Care

as mentioned above..IDPA limits courses of fire to the number of rounds..
so if carry a semi auto..you carry two spare mags.

USPSA/IPSC on the other hand..has courses of fire that reach higher round counts..thus more mags..even with the word practical in it..its concedes it is a game..

Note that if you already have a gun such as a Glock 17C with a ported barrel, you can usually install an unported barrel and shoot it for score in IDPA.

stock glock 19

oh yeah - i just polished the barrel to make it sparkly!
