PRS/NRL22 rifle

In NRL-22 the "Old Gun" rules let you shoot off of only two steps.................. ;)

Probably the two lowest!

Some clubs allow us old decrepit geezers shoot from a bench too. There is a thread over on Sniper's hide about old people precision rimfire. https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/old-people-precision-rimfire.7155833/

It's just me, a type A personality thing, but before I did that I'd look a a discipline that had everybody shooting from a bench.

I'll "get by", just won't be the fastest guy moving between positions.. kind of like in IDPA and 3Gun:D

A big part of the reason we're practicing off the props is to learn how we can do it. My shooting partner is also a retired army guy with the same lower back, knees, and neck stuff going on. The whole jumping out of, off of, wearing body armor, and the freaking Kevlar, wears on the joints. :(

I agree with what you say @Chuck R. , But for those with limited or no mobility, we at least have chance to compete if we want to. I am going to look into the old people shoots since there is one club here in Missouri that hosts them once in a while. I have to walk with a cane due to bad knees and hips plus arthritis and fibromyalgia.

Cool thread. None of the PRS -22 matches I’ve been to have had old guy rules, and were tough on top of that. The one @rdnktrkr and I shot together was brutal.

At Altus I have placed well enough among that crowd a couple of them didn’t want me getting any breaks.

The shooters at West GA we shot with were very good for the most part. One older guy was like 3rd or 4th. Well, there go my chances around here. 😁

Yep, I’ve just accepted my limitations and do the best I can, sometimes pretty good, sometimes not so hot, but I have a great time doing it.

I still love to shoot, and still love to complete. The fast and agile athlete that used to live in my body has left. Ain't coming back either.

I could always look for some Benchrest matches to go to, but I like having a shooting buddy to go with, and as long as I’m having fun, I’ll keep doing it.

Where in MO??

We're practically neighbors!

I'll have to sift through that Sniper Hide thread I linked to find the name. I know it is south of the Lake of the Ozark's.

Well it looks like we're not that close of neighbors!

Today we got some more practice in, couple of runs on the KYL rack at 57yds, then the &^$(*% ladder, then the Blue barrel sideways which sucks just about as much as the ladder, maybe worse cause it's in between positions.

IF you've got a tip for shooting off this by all means....

I'm on two knees with my butt on my legs for stuff at that height.

Finally found a pic, although it looks a little higher and like my butt is up off of my legs.

Back when 3D archery had folks get dirty, learned to shoot w both knees on ground and butt on heels.
very solid.

That one knee thing didnt cut it.

Pictured is a friend of mine, I shot it a little differently.

With the "cuddle bag" on the right knee, supporting the arm/elbow it' wasn't terrible. It's one of those capability things, 3 knee surgeries (right knee) so I try to minimize kneeling on it. For IDPA and 3Gun I prefer it as it saves time on transitioning to the next position. I'll try kneeling this weekend.

Torn meniscus and arthritis all over.
Never even shot one match.
Oh well, saved me from embarassing myself.
At least youre out there shootin :)

That's what got me!

Except in the army's wisdom they tried repairing twice, then just cut most out on the 3rd. I think the orthopedic guy was just trying to win a toaster or something. Anyhow, as long as I stretch and get a couple miles walking in everyday, I'm doing ok. They want to talk replacement, but I'm putting it off till someday...

Last weekend we were practicing in some decent wind, so naturally there were more misses. Problem was, due to my range set up, we couldn't really spot the non-impacts. So I was trying to figure out how to spot misses when practicing without a backstop near the tgts. Came up with this idea, introducing "Chuck's Mobile Bullet Proof NRL22 Target Stand":

Basically one of my AR500 2/3rs IDPA plates hung behind my NRL22 stands. It's just flat steel bar with a notch for the TGT bolt that slips into a socket on the back of the wooden stands I made. The stands came about after having tried driving the steel stands into the gravel road.. once. This is the A1 model, the original still had white IDPA plates, making a white on white tgt image that could have only been worse if we had snow.

Still haven't tested my POS Savage TR w 6-18X Freedom VX.......need to pick up another brick of SK standard plus (gave one to a bud).
My knee has been problematic the last 2 weeks, so of course walking around the plant at work, favoring it.........now my ankle is screwed up LOL
I need a week off to heal up, then a week off to do fun stuff.

Can you all explain why the ARCALock sytem seems to be preferred? Is it because of the flat surface wont catch on things like a Picrail, etc.?
