I've used Prvi Partizan loaded ammunition in various calibers in the past. Worked fine, loaded, fired, ejected, pretty clean burning and inexpensive (back in the days of availability).

Well I'm starting to reload for my .45-70 rifle if I can ever get it shootable (a different story). I have a small cache of brass, more is hard to find. I've located an apparently viable source at a reputable retailer of Prvi Partizan unprimed brass.

Qs: has anybody used it? Anything that makes it available when others brands aren't? Sometimes "too good to be true" in tight times may not apply. Any valid reason not to use it?

Thanks, as usual

-jb, looking forward to shooting the rifle some day

I think starline will let you backorder brass if that ppu doesn't work out. 45-70 is typically low pressure and the brass lasts a long time, I wouldn't be concerned. The only 45-70 brass I don't like are the trimmed down hornady cases, I just use those for trailboss loads and keep them separated.

I have used PPU .45/70 brass. I had no problem loading it, it loaded just like any of the other .45/70, I reload. I havn't shot any of it yet, but I don't forsee any problems .
I got it from Grafs.

The PPU rifle brass I've used tends to have deeper than SAAMI spec primer pockets. It hasn't had an effect on my shooting, at least none I can pinpoint to that.

I have no problems using PPU (NNY) brass.

Have not used it in 45-70, but I do use it in several military metrics and more recently. 308 win and 30-06 Garand loads. It takes all in stride, holds up to multiple firings and produces accurate ammo. I'd put the quality near the top of the scale, rivaling the Gold standards of Norma and Lapua. It is far better than Rem, Winchester or Federal. You may need to chamfer primer pockets.

As everyone has said, PPU is good brass.

My advice to you:
Buy it now!
It probably won't be there later today... tomorrow... etc.

Curiously ... it's been in stock at Grafs for at least a week + while the other 4 brands are out of stock, and none available in any brands everywhere I've looked. Thanks to the recommendations I bought my needs just before I replied above. Thanks again for the information

What bullets you planning to use? I like to use the regular 405 grain cast bullets for the vast majority of shooting and 300 grain Barnes tsx if I'm serious about putting something down.

Straying slightly from the original subject ...

Obturation (magnificent handle for lead shooters BTW): I'm apparently following your and others lead: I have a small batch of 300g cast loaded over a softball load of H4198, and just received a bag of 405g that I'm looking forward to pairing with the same powder and/or 5744. Just starting out with a replica falling block. I found bullets, powder, limited brass (that I've now supplemented), and had to pay through the nose for a few primers to get started. And then the rifle failed :fire: All posted elsewhere.

But I'm happy to hear the accolades of Privi Partisan brass. I'll soon have enough to experiment with loads.

-jb, small steps
