It is a bit confusing because there are two separate conditions which are causing the gun to discharge.

1. Gun discharges when returning into battery
a. Slide is pushed out of battery by being pushed against a solid surface.
b. Trigger is pulled, but gun doesn't discharge.
c. As gun is pulled back and slide goes into battery, the gun discharges

2. Gun discharges without trigger being touched
a. Finger is off trigger and along side frame
b. Sharp rap is applied to top of slide
c. Gun discharges

Thanks. The first is somewhat disturbing because I could see the combination of events happening while holstering the pistol in a less-than-optimal holster. The second is straight up no-thank-you.

Update:
I checked FN's service campaign. They explain how both situation occur and link them both to the pistol having been forced out of battery:
"The condition may result after the FNS pistol slide is forced out of battery at a very small and specific distance, such as what might occur if the muzzle end of the slide is pressed against an object, and the trigger is pulled. The pistol functions as designed and does not fire. However, if the condition occurs, one of two scenarios may result: (1) if the trigger is held to the rear, the pistol could delay firing until the time when the slide moves back into battery, or (2) if force is removed from the trigger and the slide moves back into battery, the pistol could fire if jarred. In the unlikely event that scenario (2) occurs, keep the pistol pointed in a safe direction and rack the slide to the rear to reset the pistol. Avoid a “tap, rack, bang” clearing sequence."

The fix, per FN, is replacing the striker, which they will do free-of-charge as part of their service campaign.

If that's all it takes, it seems like the a near non-issue. The departments' armorers could make the fix a maintenance campaign and do some cleaning or replace worn springs while they're at it. Or is there something else going on behind the scenes?

How is this happening with a firing pin block? Or do these not have a firing pin block? Can anyone educate a fool such as myself? Thanks!
I presume that since the trigger was pulled, even though out of battery, the firing pin block was depressed/disengaged.

Purchased my FNS9c about a month ago. Not subject to the recall, but my Striker did break after 300 rounds (+1200 rounds of laser dry fire). Still waiting for a replacement from FN, finally just bough an Apex Tactical striker...presumably longer lived and I am unable to recreate the accidental discharge with it installed. FNS9c FDE is handsome and is quite the shooter, but this issue coupled with a unusable right side slide release and sluggish FN support leaves me with growing disappointment. I trust my VP9, PPQ, and even PF9.

In my Ambidextral Gunfighter video review, I've taken to calling this pistol the effin' asi9 compact.
