I live in the great state of Texas and do not yet have my chl. In Texas you are able to carry a loaded weapon in your vehicle as long as it is not visible to the public and it is concealed when transported to your vehicle. I am married and have a young son so I always have it in the car wherever we go, if I ever get stopped by a LEO should I inform him or wait till asked. Remember it is never visible to anybody but always within reach.

Because you do not possess a CHL, you are not required by law to inform the police officer of the presence of your firearm:

Sec. 411.205. REQUIREMENT TO DISPLAY LICENSE. If a license holder is carrying a handgun on or about the license holder's person when a magistrate or a peace officer demands that the license holder display identification, the license holder shall display both the license holder's driver's license or identification certificate issued by the department and the license holder's handgun license.

Therefore, I would not inform the officer during a traffic stop.

You are legally required to inform only if carrying with a CHL in Texas.

There is no penalty, criminal or civil, if you fail to inform while carrying with a CHL.

Makes perfect sense huh? Another fine gun law...... I can feel the crime rate dropping as we speak.

Since this is the Legal forum, and the legal question is answered, this one is done. There are plenty of debates already about whether or not you should so no need for another.
