just wondering about something,
Finally got around to taking ALL of the wood off my Garand in preparation to strip/clean and apply a full finish to said wood.

the rifle in question is a "CMP Special" grade IE new barrel and stock with the receiver and other bits refinished and rebuilt as close to "new" as possible.
In the process of taking the handguards off I discovered that the "lower band roll pin" is missing from my example, so i wondered if anyone else had taken theirs down and discovered this part to be missing. I know that probably 75% or more of Garand owners will probably never take their rifle down far enough to find this out (ie most M1 owners i've met have never had the gas cylinder off the gun), but i figured i'd ask.

TIA

One of My M1s has a loose-fitting pin. The other two are snug. If I'm not careful the loose pin can take a few minutes hunting to find where rolled over to.

Those two were so packed with cosmoline I had to disassemble them all the way. That cosmoline gets into some pretty tight corners.

Mine have their pins, but I've never pushed one.

I have experienced CMP's customer service, and it was outstanding. Give them a call.

It's a simple 1/8" x 3/4" steel Roll Pin that's available most anywhere Hardware/Fasteners are sold.
AR-15's use the same size one for the Trigger Guard, they're really nothing special and you could use one longer or shorter to hold the Band on.

Oh I know. It's on my shopping list for my next visit to the hardware store. It's not even worth the time to contact the CMP since I can have one in hand from tru-value faster than I could get around to making a call/email to them about it. ‍

Like I said was just curious as to whether anyone else had taken their Rebuilt M1 apart and find it missing. It doesn't seem like a critical part, but I WILL be installing one once I finish, finishing the stock.

I figure the CMP armorer that put this rifle together simply missed installing the pin.
