The primer slide on the left is missing the side post. It rides along the curved guide as the press moves up and down to move primer into place. The hole in the tip slides under the primer tube to grab a single primer and move it under the case. The post/guide move it back. A spring attached to the top post moves it forward.

Over on AR15.com's reloading section bm3 also broke 2 or three of the plastic sliders. Unfortunately that sort of experience is common for early adopters (brave souls) like bm3 and jfoster99. RCBS did supply 2 sliders of each primer size with the new presses, but evidently no instructions or warnings related to why they doubled up the parts.

Since I have limited (email) access with one of RCBS's R&D engineers, I thought I'd help by passing on to him the thread address on AR15 "mini review" where this problem (breaking the plastic primer slide) was experienced first. He replied yesterday, and said that they have broken a few, but that that part is the sacrificial part made to fail, first, to prevent other part damage from mangled primers and worse. I suggested that "mistakes" cause the breakage.

So I will reply to him that the "ah..ha" event isn't as obvious to early adopters as it is to him. Will ask him to share what "mistakes" cause them to break....or IOW's how to keep them from breaking.

bm3 is attempting to have the parts machined locally out of metal since RCBS seems to be out of them at the moment. Trouble is......that might cause what RCBS was attempting to prevent......smashed primers & tube detonation (and destroyed press parts) Dillon 650 style........I'm missing APS already!;)

Hmmm... seems like whatever operator "mistakes" cause the slider to break are pretty easily accomplished. Based on the 2 reports to date, one might even think they are almost unavoidable. Not very confidence inspiring.

These presses are just coming out of the gate, and the brave early adopters will most likely experience "teething" pains.

To be fair, has there ever been a new progressive without teething problems? How long has the Hornady AP been out and they still are working out problems here and there. Same with Dillons. That's just a given. Also a given is that RCBS will fix the problems, either by education or improvements or both.

I agree, same reason I don't own a Labradar chronograph, unless I am building it, I would rather not be the first guy to own one.

Teething pains is right. I will sit and wait a bit also. I don't like the state of the economy to drop that much money on a 7 just for fun. That much money would go for a lot of primers in my Pro2000 first.
