All I wanted was for a few folks to write 'Dear Abby' a letter supporting the idea that it is not the gun owners of America that Atlanta Mom need to fear. Perhaps that was too much to ask, or perhaps it was not 'High Road' enough.

You over-reacted. It's entirely appropriate to ask the question "do you have guns?" when your child might be there. Abby didn't pass judgement (or, at least, your quote didn't indicate such).
