Hi guys I want a 220 swift in single shot. What existing cartridge would be best to re-barrel to 220 swift.

The 220 swift has a .473" rim at the head, which is very common across a lot of cartridges, it does however have a much slimmer body than is typical of the .473 head cases.

In theory from my limited understanding an action set up for a .473 rim should work, so long as it is barrelled , the chamber cut and it is correctly head-spaced to use 220 swift.

.473 / 0.049 heads included 22-250, 250 Savage, 257 Roberts, 25-06, 270W and 30-06.

Am I barking up the wrong tree or could all of these be re-barreled to take a 220 swift?

I ask because I would like a 220 swift with a faster barrel than 1:14"

(obviously in a bolt action case length would be important)
THESE QUESTIONS RELATE ONLY TO SINGLE SHOT!

You answered your own question. Any action set up for standard base cartridges will work for 220 Swift. I agree that a Swift will benefit with a faster twist but don't go overboard. I would not go faster than a 1-10 to limit the centrifugal force on the bullets.
While you are looking at new barrels, consider 22TTH (22-244). They are very popular in this area and work very well on small to medium game.

And I guess you can easily form 220 AI from just fire forming 220 swift brass!

Anyone know the difference between a 220 AI and a 220 Wilson Arrow?

CotW says the Arrow is die formed for a longer neck and steeper shoulder angle.
A standard Swift will not chamber and cannot be fireformed from factory loads like an AI.

The AI can utilize factory .220 Swift cartridges. Just shoot factory loads and then you have fireformed AI brass to reload. my fireforming loads are accurate too. Win/win. In my opinion, the best improved that Mr. Ackley made, it is the most improved over the original.
