I have a Browning BBR in .300 WinMag and shoulder muscles of a 72 year old, shooting this thing hurts. My gunsmith says he can reduce the felt recoil by 60% so I dropped my rifle off at his place of business last Saturday to do the work he said would held.........install recoil reducer in stock, new softer pad and a muzzle brake. Is this gonna fix things so this old man can shoot his rifle again?????

I would not doubt his claim of 60% but the brake will make it a lot louder.

You might also try a recoil reducing shoulder pad (PAST is what I bought for my kids when the first started shooting center fire rounds). They really seem to help with recoil. rugerman

I have fired my Win M70 in .300 win mag AND a Browning BAR in .300 win mag with a muzzle brake side by side. The difference is almost unbelievable!

You CAN shoot it, especially sighting in and hunting. Not sure about a hundred rounds from the bench!

DorGunR,
With that work it should bring it down a good bit. Brake will make it loud, especially for those around you.

Not to hijack your thread. However, since you're in MD also could you let me know the smith that did the work for you, how long it took, and what you think of his work when it's done? Hard to find many smiths around here.
Thanks!

He's done work for me before and I've always been very pleased with hs worl, Scott is a school trained gunsmith and a very nice guy.
I'll post an after action report on this rifle after I fire it.

I had a Pachmyr pad installed on my 45-70. Most of the guys here say they kick like crazy. I'm only 5'7" and I'd do 50 rounds with this no problem

I fully suspect yours will reduce recoil to a super low level compared to what it was. Be careful about shooting with someone off to the side. Muzzle brakes are LOUD. Some guides will not take a client with a muzzle brake
