The thread on front slide serrations got me thinking about this. I don't care for front slide serrations myself, but I do like the profile of my hi power.

Has anyone milled those down to give a profile like Wilson's "carry cuts" or a hi power slide? I understand the mechanics of the gun won't let you go too deep, but I would think you could go as deep as the slide serrations.

It has been offered by several custom pistolsmiths. It is usually referred to as the Hi-Power slide cuts. Take a look over on Louder Than Words

Nighthawk offers one model with the hi-power type cuts also. I find them preferable to FSS, but prefer the original style overall.

Fusion offers this. Cool thing is he deos it in a way that suits the 1911 well. So that it deosn't start to get fugly like the High power.

There's an entire pic thread devoted to these in Fusions section of 1911forum.com

Thanks. I'm looking at a used SA loaded that is in really good shape with great slide to frame fitting. If I can talk the price down a bit, I may go for it and erase the forward serrations some day.

Wouldn't changing the slide weight have impacts on the dynamics of the operation of the pistol?

I wonder how they compensate for it or just ignore the potential issue?

I think you would be correct about the weight changing things, my SA Ultra Compact (ported barrel and slide) uses a 24lb spring, compared to a 22 lb spring for a colt officers model.
