Remington moving to Huntsville AL

Local news shows that it will provide about 2k new jobs in Alabama and will also include R&D facilities. The Ilion plant will still have 1,200 employees but I imagine the new growth will be in Alabama.

When the governor of your state says that people who are pro-life, pro assault weapons and anti gay are NOT WANTED then I think he is sending a clear message. NY state is going way beyond being liberal and I hope it continues to hit them in the pocketbook, especially in areas outside the cesspool. That's really the only way to convince politicians to change.

Good for them, I'd like to see the other gun companies do the same thing. NY or CA, or IL for that matter want to demonize guns and gun owners, fine leave them behind.

A couple of years ago, amid rampant anti-gun legislation getting considered in IL, Les Baer moved lock stock and barrel to Iowa. Hitting the pols in the wallet is the only thing that gets their attention.

Barrett leads the way, they won't sell to states where citizens aren't allowed to own their products. CA for example.

"Barrett leads the way, they won't sell to states where citizens aren't allowed to own their products. CA for example."

Huh??? How can they sell their products if they are illegal there?

They won't sell to law enforcement, to the state government, nor will they service or sell parts to rifles already owned by such.

He means they won't even sell to LE or other government agencies in those states. Barrett famously wrote a letter to the LAPD chief telling him he was returning several Barrett rifles the LAPD had sent him for service unrepaired, and would sell no more to that agency, because they were using one of his rifles as a stage prop in a gun control event put on by the city of Los Angeles.

while this is good for Alabama, it is meaningless to Cuomo and his ilk.

reverse the roles and imagine a tax payer funded abortion clinic for teenage girls without parental consent or notification deciding to open up in new York instead of Alabama. think the Alabama folks would be upset? no, they want to send that shinola to other states; just like Cuomo wants to do with firearms and ammo...

That's very true Jerry. What would make it hurt is if they moved the corporate headquarters to a free state. NY losing all of Remington's taxes might make people rethink their positions come election time.

Congratulations to Alabama.
"The initial estimated impact on Alabama’s economy will be roughly $87 million."

The article says that "Yellowhammer will have full coverage of the announcement on Monday."

This is a win win for the company, for the citizens of Alabama and for gun owners in general.

.

Probably also means they don't spend the R&D to make state-compliant versions of their guns, only to have the state vote in new restrictions that require new R&D to make new state-compliant versions.

Oops. Sorry about the double thread post fellas, I was so excited to come in and post I didnt even look around first..

I wonder what kind of skills they need..that'b a sweet gig.

After thinking about this some more my only concern is Remington had some QC issues awhile back and will they actually ramp up the QC to what it should be in a new factory until they work out all the issues and get the worker trained properly?

I imagine it will be heavy on the low skill side but should be fairly high paying for Alabama.

I hope they don't bring any of them Damn Yankees down here to work. For those of you that don't know how it works we call people from above the Mason Dixon line Yankees. We call people that move here and stay Damn Yankees. :D

Where I grew up if you lived north of I-10 you were a yankee. but seriously For Remington to stay and pay taxes to a government intent on it's destruction would be like PAYING for the knife for someone to cut your own throat with. I would look for Remington to Get this factory on line ,operational and running smoothly then slowly let the NY location wind down till it's gone . Good for us , bad for the workers there. They're the real losers in this. As far as NY state government I've got a whole pile of sand they can pack.

Low skill? Ha! Those Southern boys can machine and operate as well, or better, than many Northern shops. They have just been doing it for less money.

Huntsville is an interesting choice as it is the city with the highest percentage of engineers in the population in the USA. It is the home of Redstone Arsenal as well as the Marshall Spaceflight Center and the companies that support those missions. If engineers are needed, Huntsville is the place to find them.

I suspect this will help Remington get some federal contracts due to the influence of Senator Shelby.

BTW, I am a damn Yankee as I was born and raised in Ohio, married a woman from Alabama, and raised our family in Alabama. Even my wife calls me "Damn Yankee".

This is great news for the Huntsville area. They will be moving into the old Chrysler complex so the infrastructure will not have to start from scratch. Huntsville definitely has the workforce to support this at all levels from engineers to basic labor.

Congratulations to any company or person that won't put up with tyrants deciding their fate.

Exciting news for Huntsvegas. Maybe some more will come this way and we can be the center of the firearms world (we are already the big kahuna in the aerospace world). I suspect it possible that they would have a chance to rub elbows with all of the govt contract type folks down here, like said above.

Good for the family biz too.

How many of ya'll remember Clinton trying to force States to guy from Ruger????. I remember Huckabee sending a letter to Clinton more or less telling him to stuff it!! I'm sure it is on the internet somewhere.

The South has already become the "New Detroit"with all of the auto manufacturers. We might as well become the "New New England" in the firearms industry.

I have always been a Rem-guy,but was a little disappointed of them not been more vocal in New York. Well I guess that's over.......will be gettin a new Rem soon.

Moving to free states

It seems that these manufacturers are doing the right thing. When is Smith&Wesson going to make a move?.It looks as if the south just might rise again,as far as manufacturing goes.
