As many of you know by now for sure, Remington is planning on bringing out what is essentially a modernized and updated version of it's old Model 51 pocket pistol, this time chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum. Here is a great article from The Firearms Blog about the new R51:

I don't know about you but I'm pretty excited. I personally am just now getting into concealed carry, and this gun looks like a promising design that I'd love to try out for that purpose.

So what do you think about this new gun from Remington? Do you think it's cool, or a total flop?

Let the discussion begin! :D

Me myself and I, believe they would have better off if they had followed the clean classic lines of the original. I think it looks like something Hans Solo would pass off on the Wooki. I think Kimber had the right ideal with the Solo.

This is the first gun, in a very long time, that I would be willing to put my cash on the table. Not over joyed about the plastic frame but for $389 I could live with it. Impressed with the grip safety, and see it as a plus!
Big question will be the availability a month from now.

I sort of think it could have the sleeker shape of the original too, but the R51 is far from an ugly gun IMHO... at least not as ugly as SOME subcompact 9mm handguns!

It has an alloy frame.

I have decided to get one. Metal, cool looking, and should be good and can't beat the price.

I am in the minority as I usually buy guns, not internet reviews. When I see and handle one, I will decide whether to put down money.

I'm very excited to see something genuinely different on the market, and at the price I might just have to pick one up myself.

All metal, single action, under $400? Hard to argue with that, assuming they work right.

I'm going to pick me up one of these too. For the price it's tough to pass on considering it's innovation and cool factor. If it proves to be worthy, I may even use it as my primary CCW as I'm in the process of applying for that right now. It has many aspects I very much like in a carry gun. If it turns out to be a dud, I'm sure it won't be hard to sell.

I'm pretty excited.

Single stack, all metal, fixed barrel, single action trigger, ambi mag release, no thumb safety, full length grip safety, (as opposed to a tiny safety like springfield uses on their xd line) at a reasonable weight, width, and price. Oh, and it looks like I'll be able to fit my pinky on the grip too. Bonus points.

I plan to buy one as soon as I can. I need a single stack 9mm, and I am too darn cheap for P938.

The styling is a little swoopy for my taste but I am just fascinated that they chose to bring back the Pedersen action instead of following the crowd and just sawing off a Browning.

It is interesting, it is cheap, now if it just SHOOTS. I am sure we will have reports on it from SHOT Range Day.

To me, it is the best looking 9mm carry gun in the market. If it shoots, at that price it will be a big success.

If I like the way it feels in my hands, and the reviews are mostly positive, I will buy one in a year or two.

Not going to be a BETA tester or pay over MSRP like most folks the first year.

If there aren't egregious reliability issues in the first few months, I'll get one for myself for my birthday in May. I've got a Remington 1911 R1 for recreational shooting and I want something with similar trigger feel and controls, but smaller/lighter/slimmer, for conceal carry. And this is about half the price of the Sig P938.

For under $400 I'll buy it for the cool factor and unique action, but only after the beta testers have had a chance to wring it out.
