So, I was considering sending in a couple of Glock slides to get milled so they would accept a Red Dot. I came across info about a type of RDS that wouldn't require milling but instead is just a replacement for the existing rear sight on Glocks and Smith M&Ps. It's the Leupold DeltaPoint and I thought I'd give one a try and here is my report. I used a generic sight pusher and installation took about 10 minutes. The sight itself is essentially an elongated peep sight, which turns out to be ideal as a backup in case your battery fails -- you just use the peep like any other, find your front sight post and you're in business. Moreover, when you zero the DeltaPoint you can use the same method -- activate the red dot then co-witness it with your front sight, making adjustments as necessary before you even fire a shot and the thing is zeroed! I put the DeltaPoint on my Glock 20, which I carry when hiking so shots beyond 10 yards would be quite possible if I'm going to use the gun. So far, I'm quite pleased. If it craps out in the next few months, I'll provide an update....

I've had one for a few months, mounted on my wife's glock 19. (I also shoot it regularly.) Installation is simple, and it's much less bulky than a conventional pistol red dot. So far no issues with battery life or durability, it's a typical Leupold quality product. I was initially worried about "finding" the dot during the draw/presentation, due to the small window, but it's really no different than any other pistol red dot with a bigger window, such as a Holosun or RMR. (I have experience with both of those for comparison.) Adjustments are easy with the single button. (It's actually a bit easier to cycle through brightness settings than small buttons on other sights.) Much easier to find holsters that fit as the sight is the same height as conventional irons, so as long as your chosen holster doesn't go over the back of the slide where the battery is, no issues. The biggest downside is the battery sticking out the back, so the bulk is in a different spot, and you have to remove the battery to take the slide off when cleaning your pistol. Zero has held up fine.

I think it would fit really well on a subcompact such as a G26. If I was looking for a dot for a full size pistol like a 17, I'd steer toward a more conventional one.
