I know the mods tend to frown upon posting of clips from YouTube, but this is positively THE most outrageous anti-gun clip from (which TV show?). It features Richard Pryor as a man going into a gun shop to buy a gun. The guns in the shop anthropomorphically tell the stories of their lives to Mr. Pryor. Take note of all the inaccuracies concerning gun ownership contained within the video. It's insane. Listen for the voice cameos from Robin Williams.

What BS, every gun he picked up was involved in a death of a human. Outrageous indeed!

Look for more of that kind of nonsense from every point on the compass (well, east and west, mostly) from now on.

The Himmler Machine has been resurrected from WWII.

Again.

Glad he could stop doing cocaine long enough to make that powerful community minded message. Thanks, you too Robin, another reason not to respect either of them.

It's not infantilism on their part. It's cold, calculated, slickly done propagandizing.

What I'm worried about is the infantilism of the tiddly-heads who believe it uncritically.

Too many of those, unfortunately. Half the people in the country are below average in intelligence.

Richard Pryor's inability to freebase cocaine without catching himself on fire did more bodily damage to a human being than any gun I own. Also, make sure to read up on Pryor's neurological state in the years before he died. Much of this was likely due to contaminants, etc., in all the stuff he was smoking.

Gun bans don't keep guns out of the hands of idiots and criminals any more than drug bans have kept drugs out of the hands (and noses and veins) of idiots and criminals.

"See anything that interests you?"

"No man, there's no cocaine in here."

In his case, he's probably projecting. What was his character doing in there anyway?

I personally like the silenced revolver just lying on the table. How about the gun shop owner that doesn't care about the psycho browsing his store?

They must have never been in a gun store in their lives, all the rifles are arranged top in not top out like in every other gun store (okay, the four or five) I've seen.

Half the people in the country are below average in intelligence.

I would put it at more than that, actually.

I'm also curious what show this is from. Usually when I see Pryor on screen, I'm accustomed to funny happening shortly afterword. This clip doesn't even seem to have pretensions of being mildly amusing.

Wow. Would be funny if the makers of that didn’t totally believe that drivel.

Now I wonder why they didn’t have him pick up Malcolm X’s M1 Carbine? That would have been fun.

“Come on! Go to the window and do the ‘Peek thing.’ You know you want to. Yeah… that’s it. Cool ain’t?”

Or maybe an MN 91/30?

“Pounded tent steak in ground. Wery hard ground. You no plant tomatoes? You take me. Yes? I no like tomatoes. You no have tank. Yes? I go vid you. No like tank treads. Hurt vhen dey make me do pry bar.”

Or any of my long guns.

“Oh that’s a shock. He missed again. Hey… can you try it again with your EYES OPEN this time. GEEZ!”

I propose a script change:

THE GUN SHOP

Guy walks in: Some young tough is being shown the door by the shop owner. Shop owner sits down.

Shop owner
“Feel free to look around.”

Guy starts looking around. Pick up a SxS shotgun.

SxS Shotgun
“Brother! You can’t go wrong with a Side by Side. I can protect your home, put meat on the table, and intimidate the occasional gentleman caller who seeks the affections of your daughter.

"well... not that last one. Not anymore. You'd goto jail for that."

Guy puts the gun back. Walks over and grabs the derringer.

Derringer
“Well my first owner wanted to see what it was like to fire me. He fired half a box and never took me out again. Second owner carried me in her pocket. Never did actually use me, but she felt a damn sight safer. She gave me to her daughter.

“Daughter carried me and had to use me once to fend off a couple of guys who wanted to do something bad to her. Punks didn’t have the stones to do the math and ran. She decided to get something with more capacity.

“I’m looking for someone in the SASS to come along and give me a good home.”

Puts gun down and walks to the Scoped rifle.

Scoped rifle
“I’ve been used to drop a bunch of deer in my time. One owner took an Elk once.

Guy
*to himself* “I’m sure you’ve killed someone.”

Scoped rifle
“What? A human? Why would you want to shoot a human? They have much eatin’ on them? No! Come on. What are you some kind of madman?

“HEY YOU GUYS! LISTEN UP! This Doof thinks WE all kill people. HAH!

“Hey Hans? Pappy? Either you been used on a person.”

Hans (German Lugar)
“Nein. I vas built tovard zee end ov the zee var. My oh-ner fired me ower a berm a few times. I did take out a street light. Since den I’ve only used to kill paper.”

Pappy (Police trade in)
“My owner had to shoot a perp who tried to hurt and old lady. He spent 2 months in counseling. I don’t like to talk about it. He qualified expert every year though. Really good groupings. I can on for days about that.”

Voice from the back of the room
“I was used to shoot a cop!”

Room falls silent.

Voice starts again.
“Yeah. My guy was talking to a bunch of school kids and shot himself in the leg.”

Camera pans to a Glock.

Voice (Glock)
“I know, I know. But technicalities count!”

Guy moves to pick up a “suppressed” revolver.

“Suppressed” Revolver
“I’m a dummy prop gun. I ain’t never even used a real round. Don’t look at me.”

Guy picks up a Nickel Plated Revolver.

Nickel Plated Revolver
“Sorry, no ‘bodies on me.’ You really need to see someone about the fear you have. Do you walk by cars on the street and worry about them hitting people? Dude, you really DO NOT need to by a gun. They got laws about selling to crazy people.”

Guy walks up to Hans (the lugar)

Hans
“I’m sorry zat you feel dis vay about firearmz. Perhapzt you zould come back ven you are reazy to accept zee rezponzibility ov owning a veapon. No von vants to kill. Only a madman seeks zee deztruction ov anozer human. Take it from me. I know about madmen. You have some unrezolved izuzez that you need to addrezz. Ya?"

Guy nods head

Hans
"Gott. Now go and get zome help and ven you are reazy, you can come back and talk to zat nice .22 rewolver on zee vall. Now run along. Macht schnell mid dei walkingk! Eins! Zwei! Eins! Zwei! Eins! Zwei!”

Guy Jumps

Gun shop owner, who’s been watching this twitch the entire time, has a 4473 out hoping he can get this guy’s name and address.

Guns shop owner
“You see anything you like?“

Guy
“Um. No. I… um. No.”

Guy leaves

Gun Shop Owner
“Nutjob”

End scene

Some of the stuff I have seen on this site is just as bad. Look at all the attacks on Muslims, Democrats, liberals, gays, Mexicans, Blacks, and others who dont fit.

THis is just a sketch. Some of you need to relax. Its ok not to think that it is always the mainstream media with the black helicopters circling your houses at night trying to take away your guns and make you think Jesus was a gay granola eating Multi-culturalist. Just relax and put away the desire to be victimized and enjoy some humor every once in awhile.

Now that's a skit I would like to see: I'd like to hear what stories guns would tell THR members.:D

"I'm best for bear." "I'm what you want for zombies.":D

Stroyer, not really outrageous. It is a window into how the media/political elite views firearms, as evil incarnate. No guns (in the hands of citizens)=no suffering. They believe that people are all good happy sheep grazing away in comfort (thus we call them East Coast Eloi) until corrupted by the evil of guns. Remember 9/11, they said it happened with plastic pistols. They could not visualize any harm not caused by guns.

Remember when Saving Private Ryan came out, what 10 years ago? Remember the whimpering by the media elite about those "evil guns doing the killing"?

"Just take their guns away" was the argument I heard during the Crack Wars of the '90s when I lived in DC and Chicago. They could not conceive that evil existed beyond an inert mechanical device. The guns have souls and can talk. This is how they sound.:)

Strangely enough, even though this was one sided, I don't have a problem with it.

Guns are weapons; and they are designed for hurting and killing people.
If you're not ok with the fact that a gun can kill an innocent child just as well and as easily as a bad guy, you're deluding yourself.

The main reason I didn't have a problem with this, is I found it pretty silly, even though I know that wasn't their intention.
Those guns didn't commit the atrocities. Those guns were remembering teh atrocities comitted by their previous users.

Guns are used many times to do bad things. The main problem many Liberals/leftists/hippies/Bradys/whatever have with guns is that it makes violence easy. The thing they get wrong, is, that evil and violence is in the heart of the person. Having or not having a gun doesn't make someone decide evil is too difficult to commit.

Many people believe that the availability of weapons means they'll always be used at the slightest provacation. This is proven wrong time after time. Notice how we don't have nuclear exchanges time after time? People DO think about the concequences of their actions. Having weapons is a deturrant to violence. Just ask Pakistan and India. Notice how both sides suddenly became more peaceful toward each other after they both got the ability to blow each other up?

Remember: most people don't get it.
Don't get mad when someone doesn't get it. You sholdn't get mad at a child if he doesn't understand his times tables right off the bat. Remember: Everyone's always learning, or should be.

Being calm and civil with the antis is your best bet.

Anyone here read livejournal? Go read the "guncontrolnow" community there. The guy that started it is starting to see the light. Plenty of time the "rest of us" patiently (or not so patiently) took the time to explain our views. It's slow, painful work, but it does work.

You guys do realize this was done back in the 70s don't you?

While there is a definite "anti gun" message, and Richard is hardly one to preach it was a skit on a variety show. Pryor was actually a gun owner as well.

It is a skit.

I grew up with Pryor, Carlin, Redd Foxx , Buddy Hackett, and so many others.
Roland & Martin's Laugh-In was on TV, and broke some long standing Censorships.
Laugh-In was saying things direct, not implied, I mean directly awarding the Fickle Finger of Fate to Politicians, Celebrities, Fortune 400, Leaders of other Countries...
Vietnam, Race Riots, War Protests, Black Panthers, Patty Hurst, and so much more going on.

Pryor was doing his thing, and Political Correctness, not even around.
Whites, Blacks, Asians, Puerto Ricans, Hispanics and others in attendance of his shows, and laughing, and poking fun at themselves and each other.
Humor to give some relief to some serious times.

You know a white boy gettin' pulled over by the Oklahoma State Police different that black fella, oh hell yeah.
Bang, Bang - Stop mutha, this the OSP! "

What you laughing at? Yeah you with them pointy shoes, I knowed them Fence Climbers , oh yeah , brothers done learn about how you Puerto Ricans can hop a fence, but you ain't got nothing on a brother stealin' a watermelon and outrunning shotgun loads...
Hey you, injun, you grinning right funny, you been Smoking Peyote?
Damn! if Sammy Davis can become a Jew, I gotta be able to become a Cherokee and be legal with this Religious experiences...

Music of the times, quite a bit anti war.
Still it was our music, our times, and folks enjoyed the music, the beat and people they listened to it with.
Antis had their interpretations...

Military had the same music, still interpretation it different.

Buffalo Springfield - Stop children whats that sound everybody look what is going down
The Anti protesting, the beat cop watching six with these protesters, the Service Men and Women watching six...
Great song, neat beat, we just "made it our own", and got on with living.

Jimi Hendrix was a Paratrooper and wrote "All Along the Watchtower"
Some antis got a big surprised to find out Jimi was black, was a Paratrooper, they "just knew" this song was about the "man" or "heat" coming down on them.

I wish Jim Belushi was still alive and doing his Samuri Swordsman skits...
Bears, Zombies, Pumas and he would have a field day with this...

The boy stuck his feets in the blue piss, then the monkeys starting flying and that is when I put my hand on my knife ! - Pryor, as Mudbone.

Notice that the first guy he runs into inside the store is a white skinhead. Not a hispanic deer hunter, a black shopkeeper concerned about holdups, or an asian woman looking for a personal protection weapon.

Nope.

It's got to be a white skinhead. Who's doing the profiling now?

All the same, I submit that this little piece of video idiocy didn't convince anybody that guns are "evil," but rather it merely cemented in their beliefs those people who already lacked perspective and common sense when it comes to gun ownership.

And that is probably the only saving grace of heavy handed stuff like this.

Mr. Pryor had multiple sclerosis, which causes damage to the central nervous system. MS is probably autoimmune; its cause is unknown.
