To the original posting: It is a shame some people are considered above the law. He should be brought before a judge on charges. As to religion. Those who truly follow Christ would not espouse murdering anybody. I am happy to be counted as a Christian. Truly the passage states "Thou shalt not murder".

Shame this is turning into religion bashing...

I agree. Lets treat this Reverends comments and actions as an isolated incident and not resort to religion bashing. Just because a small minority pervert religious teaching doesn't mean all religious teaching is bad.

Lets also keep in mind that many atheists have committed terrible acts as well (often in defiance of religion). One could just as easily bash the disbelief in religion too.

Again, lets try to avoid religion bashing and the inevitable thread lock that will follow.

Down with Snuffy,
Full of Hate,
The Jesse is with thee.
Cursed art thou amongst gunnies,
And cursed is the blather
Of thy idol, Brady.
Stupid Snuffy,
Molester of Rights,
Stick foot in mouth now,
And at the hour of death.
Amen.

I hear it's a religion of peace ...

This is insane, but then again, not by some of the standards of "priestly" behavior we've seen exposed in the last several years. Really creepy, insidious stuff.

But I'm sure that many priests are not slobbering hypocrites -- I suspect that some priests out West still carry (can anyone confirm?)

And I thought Phelps was stupid.

This guy's threatening to kill a man who works in a gun store. As in, a store filled with weapons.

Anyone think this could be a Darwin Award?

There is the famous 'Padre Pistole' south of the border who likes to carry.
Many Catholic Schools have taught marksmanship. Remember, the Catholic Church is the largest and wealthiest non-governmental institution on the planet. As such, it has all kinds of people involved, good bad and otherwise.

Funny nobody considers it religion bashing when its Muslims that are being talked about...

I hear you there. That's the neocon element of THR.
Either way the bible says "Thou shalt not kill," I guess he did not read that far.

Last I checked it said "Thou shalt not murder".

I love that word 'neocon'. It almost reminds me of 'nazi'. Seems that word flows so easily these days...neocon...neocon...neocon...

What happen to the seperation of church and State?

Seeing how those words appear in none of our founding documents I don't see how the question is relevant.

Bingo!!! Pepper hit it (but misspelled bud, hate to be a spellling nazi).

These are TAX FREE RELIGIOUS GROUPS

Jackson, Sharpton, and now the Catholic Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church.

Do the math. Yank their tax free status....

His big claim to fame was becoming an adoptive single father while serving as a priest--it got a HUGE amount of media attention back around 1980 or so.

Ahem... just wanted to know the sex of the child he adopted...

Inquiring minds want to know???

Here is the problem. All groups that actually stand for something attract their share of nutjobs, be they religious or political. There is pretty much no way to avoid that and I try very hard not to judge any group by its lunatic fringe. This individual is one such wack-job.

Religious fanatics are the worst kind- More people have died in wars and other conflicts in the name of religion than for any other reason- Yup, that's a right Christian attitude reverand- If you think your "calling" reserves you a room upstairs, I have to think The Man may have other ideas-

All those that attempt to take our Guns....if achieved will plead to us and God for help when tyranny reigns over them.

If they will not subject themselves to God, which tyrant will they choose as their oppressor?

Matthew 7
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name?.......
23 "And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Yes, and when will he be de-frocked? I won't hold my breath...

He first adopted a little boy named Joey. He later adopted 2 more boys. One was killed in a gang crossfire and one is serving in the U.S. Army much to his father's consternation. Not sure on No. 3--I think they are all adults now.

As far as I know he is a great rarity in having adopted children and being a priest. I know the church will sometimes allow older widowed men with adult kids to become priests, but they basically never allow priests to adopt kids as the whole idea distracts from their pastoral role.

Anyway, I've never heard anyone say he was a bad parent--he's just politically alligned with the Jesse Jackson brand of politics and theater.

What this guy yaps about isn't the Catholic faith I know about. While I concede that there's an anti-gun streak among many Catholic clergy (goes with pacifism some say), calling for snuffing out gun stores isn't very Catholic.

BTW - The Catholic law school I go to has a 2nd Amendent club. Not all of us are gun grabbers.

As an ex-Catholic and ex-Chicagoan, my question is has he ever picketed the Catholic Church in Chicago regarding sexual abuse of minors by Catholic priests?

If not, I find it fascinating that he has more [and more virulent] animosity for people LAWFULLY selling firearms than he does for people who rape children.

Anybody in the Chicago area who might chance to have contact with him, should perhaps ask him that very question...
