so I got scammed on armslist this weekend, and while I was sitting around on my days off feeling sick about it I stumbled into a deal on another gun on my short list. Honestly the whole DW 44 thing made me feel so sick I almost took it as a message from a higher power to quit buying firearms, but I also wanted something to show for the money I was missing. So I either got a really great deal on this Ruger or I paid twice as much as it's worth, depending on how you look at it. I'm just happy to have a gun headed my way after all that.

I am excited about this Ruger because it ticks a lot of boxes for me. I don't have and have wanted a single action, and the Ruger single actions have always looked good to me. I wanted a 41 magnum because up to a certain bullet weight on paper it offers 44-like performance, and people claim that it shoots flatter and has less recoil. I know the benefits of 41 over 44 are marginal and even arguable, but I've had 41 in my head for a while. I know what the strengths of 44 are over 41. I've also admired Bisley frames. Lastly, after having the DW 44 fall through I just had a big bore itch that needed scratched I guess.

Someone traded this in to a gun shop NIB, and the price was better than used, so it takes a little bit of the sting off getting taken for the non-existent DW. Looking forward to getting this and taking it out for its first shots. This is pistol #7 in my safe, and maybe a 7 day set is a good place to stop. Never say never, but I am going to try to just enjoy the ones I have instead of endlessly buying more of them.

Nice gun, I've got it's 45 convertible twin.

I have that same model and love it. It is currently off at a gunsmith having a new 2 Dogs front sight on it. The sight has hold horizontal bars inset into it a la Elmer Keith. I cannot wait to get it back. I think you will like this sidearm!

That a fine looking Ruger you scored and a great way to put the scam in the rear view mirror. You did a service to others by posting a warning about Armslist scammers. FTF is the safest way to use Armslist . Enjoy the new Ruger!

I think the 5.5" barrels are amongst the best looking. Congratulations on your new Ruger.

I'm not saying I'm envious but I AM ENVIOUS! :D And I love the dark wood grips against the stainless finish.

Seriously, congratulations on a gun that will give you a lifetime of enjoyment and performance and can be handed down to future generations. I don't have the Bisley version but do have two regular Blackhawks in 41 mag. and they are a pleasure to shoot. I've become a huge fan of the caliber.

A suggestion: If you don't reload now, the 41 magnum is a great cartridge to start with. A basic single stage set up can be had for under $100 which includes the press and dies. Just a thought.

I bought a Redhawk .41 and started reloading for it right away. A great caliber for sure!

I was ogling a. 4 5/8” BH .41 the other day, that may be in my future soon. Your beautiful new .41 may just cement that purchase for me!

Stay safe.

Here's mine...

...that particular gun was very, very high on my Unobtanium List for many years, then they kicked some new ones out... and I got one! Unfortunately... it turned into a sordid tale of woe. Horrible trigger, mismatched throats, and a cylinder that fairly rattled on the cylinder pin. This was about my 6th or 7th Ruger revolver with problems... I had been through a handful of .45 Colt Blackhawks and Bisleys that all disappointed. I kept telling myself to send it in, and I never did... and I finally just sold it off (that was one of the guns I sold to buy my DW 741.) I miss it, but I would probably be more likely to try a Redhawk over another Blackhawk.

It really is a nice pistol... unfortunately, mine was not the sum of it's parts. I hope yours is a better example!

Sorry to hear you got taken for a ride on the Dan Wesson but then fortune smiled on you with this beautiful Ruger Blackhawk Bisley! Hope it proves to be a real tack driver!

what do you guys think of checkered grips for this pistol? Lock it in my hand better, or too much texture for the recoil this will have? I always like aggressively textured grips for my semis. Appreciate it.

You know what I would do? ...and I've considered this for my single, remaining Ruger (the Vaquero in my photo above...) is get a set of grips for shooting, and then put the factory grips back on when you are done. I actually do this with my 2 Smith .41's... I detest the looks of the Pachys on those classy pistols, but they sure do shoot well... then when we get back home they slip into something more appropriate.

I put some Altamonts on my .22 single six and wrangler last November, they were 20 bucks on their websites Black Friday sale.
I believe they make them for the Bisley Blackhawks in almost the same patterns. ( I looked, they’re about 50 bucks in Rosewood.)

They’re not super sharp/grippy, but I find them a bit easier to hang onto than the smooth panels that were on it originally.

Not as nice as custom grip makers can do, but more affordable if you find that they don’t do much and you go another route later on.

Go with which ever grips are comfortable for you. I have the regular Ruger smooth grips on my 41 mag. Blackhawks and they work fine. Unless the checkered grips are exceptionally sharp, they should be no problem. The recoil with 41 mags., even heavier loads, isn't too much for checkered grips. If I were to replace the grips it would be with the synthetic ivory grips. I think they look great against the blue finish.

My .41 Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter was my first revolver. I liked it before, but after it came back from Magnaport with the action job, it was a different revolver. The trigger is much improved. The recoil wasn’t bad before, but now it is really very pleasant to shoot. I hope you enjoy yours equally as much!
