Remember how a bunch of folks were losing their minds about LCP II being unsafe because idiots at Ruget put a warning in the manual against carrying it with a chambered round? Who wants to bet that Ruger is going to double down and keep that warning in the manual of Security-9?

I saw a comment last night about it that said "Oh look, a Ruger Creed"... which is very accurate considering the Walther PPX/Creed hammer system.

It is cool that Ruger is making more budget options again (more than their normal budget options), I just wish they made a full DA/SA hammer gun. But, alas, it is a crowded field and I am not currently in the market as I have a Glock19 sized firearm already covered.

Other than different internal operation (but, if I'm reading it correctly, essentially identical operation in terms of the user's experience), what differentiates this from the American? I'm trying to figure out what this offers that the American doesn't?

You would win that bet; the warning is on page 19 of the Security 9 manual.

A MSRP of $579 for the RAP versus $379 for the Security 9 is a big difference.

If they made a compact, I may have looked for one of these over my SR9c.
Not going to change now, but for one I do like the fewer, more widely-spaced serrations than the many even ones like on the SR series.

It does look pretty obviously less fluffed-and-polished than the SR series from the pictures, but Ruger doesn't often skimp on the actual function. Anyone want to bet that the hammer system is something like a refined P-series hidden in there?

I suppose, but when the American's are going on sale for $430 or so (Bud's), and lower on occasion, I'm just not sure how much lower the Security 9 will really sell for. If it competes with the Walther Creed (at ~$280 on-line) I guess it might find a place.

The Ruger 9E (MSRP $80 > Security 9) is available from several dealers in the $230-$250 range, which suggests Ruger will try to deliver the Security 9 at a bit lower price.

Security 9 vs American.

No interchangeable grip panels on the S9. No removable chassis (not that Ruger is supporting the modular concept) and no ambi parts.

I'm digging it. A cost effective Glock 19 sized 9mm? Why not. The LCP II trigger is great. Adding the manual safety will keep many happy.

For under 400 bones, I'll be trying it out. P320 for full size carry/HD. Security-9 for something bigger than an lcp but not a full size gun.

The open place in the back where the hammer sits looks like it will let a lot of stuff in it.

Not sure why they didn't stay with a striker fired gun.

Like carrying a shrouded revolver with the hammer back. IMHO that is inviting possible problems

No doubt that is an entry point for lint, etc but it is an improvement over the original.

I have an LCP II. I haven't carried it a ton but It doesn't get as much fuzz in there as the LCP.

Personally I would have preferred they did an LCP III. A pistol chambered in 9mm that's based on the LCP but swollen up to accept 9mm. Something that's equivalent to the SIG 238/938 or the Kimber Micro 380 and Micro 9. A concealed carry pistol in that same size class in 9mm that's $300 would be pretty amazing. I know Ruger already makes the LC9 but I think making an LCP in 9mm that shares some common internal parts would make a better gun.

For a mid-sized pistol I think Ruger needs to develop the American. Make the chassis standard across the various models and then sell conversion kits. Something that competes against the SIG 320.

Just my opinion. I'm sure the Security 9 will sell well at the predicted $300 mark.

The Security 9 is okay I guess but nothing there really that would make me want to sell or trade in my SR9c for one.

It’s lighter than the American. The grip has the lines of the American and the slide looks more like the SR.

I'm really curious to handle one of these and see what the real retail price ends up being. It's actually the first polymer framed gun that has peeked my interest in years, I may end up getting one..

Hate the name. Security 9 should be a nine-shot revolver, IMHO.

Might as well have called it the Greyhawk- would have been more appropriate, I think.
I don't think most people get hung up by a name. I mean KIA (killed in action), but I see them driven all over the place.

Haha, right. Just so happens I work for KIA.
Korean International Autos, Keeping It Affordable, and Know It All are running jokes as well.
Almost nobody knows this (but you learn it in the first day of manufacturer training), KIA is two Korean words: Ki, which means (I kid you not) "To rise up from as if a Phoenix from the flames" and A (ahh), which simply means Asia.
So it means "To rise up from Asia."

As for gun naming, I think many people (like me) remember the Ruger Security Six fondly and- as good as the GP100 is, would welcome its return, even as a limited edition. Attaching "Security" to a Ruger auto would be like Smith and Wesson using "M&P" for an automatic pistol............

Its just wrong.

lol Coincidence :)

I will probably check one of the Security 9s. I switch between carrying a LCP(1), LC9, and a LCR. Looks interesting.
