SCOTUS asked to rule on NY concealed carry

I reside in Monroe County. On the application itself it says not to call to inquire about status of your permit application until a minimum of 9 months has passed. 17 dollar application fee, plus 125 dollar finger print fee.

Now due to covid its much longer. Everything is appointment only. I called to schedule my 2 appts the last Sunday in September. Earliest I could get finger printed was end of October. Earliest appointment to file app with the County clerk was early-mid December. When I dropped off the paperwork I was told I should hear back in 9-16 months.

I hear other counties are as quick as 3 months or so even during these crazy times. Can't even go to a dealer and hold a handgun without a permit, and some dealers won't sell handgun ammo without the permit (despite the fact .357/.44 are also used in lever actions).

True enough on Monroe though I’ve known quite a few people to have gotten it in less than. Anticipated time, even during covid. Fingerprints are hit and miss.

absolutely do not agree that NY makes it virtually impossible to get a license. It’s easy as filling out an application and waiting. Never met a person who wasn’t a felon who didn’t get one.

I'm not sure if it's still on the application or not since I got mine in the early 90s, but here in broome county in order to get your permit you had to sign of on your 2a making it a privilege that can be revoked at the whim of the state, county or other law enforcement agencies. Anyone who didn't approve of this was denied his or her permit.

Iirc when I got mine there was no law in writing allowing counties of issuance to change the statuses of permit types., but broome did it anyway, a clear violation of the states law. Similarly the state, county, by making pistol permits a privilege is a violation of our tights to keep and bear arms.

Don't forget 9mm, 45, acp, 45lc,or any other cartridge that can be chambered in both pistols and rifles. Had one FFL say I had to prove I had a pistol caliber rifle to step "pistol" ammo without permit.

In my area, WNY - ammo purchases have no checks. Cabelas, for instance, you just check out. You think a big store would be fussy but they aren't. The LGS don't care.
Yeah. In my experience it’s more store policy than it is any kind of law/rule/reg.

The judge of the county I grew up in, brags that he hasn't issued a concealed carry permit in 20 years. He is quite proud of his achievement of usurping the Bill of Rights. I received my denial letter about a year after I moved out of NY. The reason? I didn't fit the justifiable need to be armed in my own home let alone outside. There certainly are some counties in NY where you are better off lighting $150 on fire than submitting an application for a permit.

Yikes! I’m sorry to hear that, which county?

I have never had any issue getting a pistol permit in New York State and even have been able to keep mine for New York City. When I got both in 1971 they were Valid Until Revoked, but that changed when the Safe Act Came out. It was kind of funny carrying with a permit in 2012 that had my picture on that was from 1971. It did take me 11 months to get my first permit and 14 for my first NYC permit.
