.243 seems like just a great round for everything. It also has the advantage of no connection to "assault rifles" and thus would seem a round not likely to attract the focus of the gun-grabbers.

What sort of firearms, semi-auto, come in .243? Since the thing is the same case as the .308, I assume there are ARs...pretty sure there ar ARs in fact.

Anybody have a .243 semi-auto...in any configuration?

You can get a Remington 7400, or the "improved" 7400, called the Rem 750.

I think you can get a Browning BAR.

You can get a DPMS AR-10 type rifle.

I think you can get a DS Arms FAL style rifle.

I wouldn't mind having the DPMS myself in .243.

Premium Sauces has a pretty good list - I'll add the Armalite AR-10 in certain production runs. (Not clear to me if it's a standard catalog or special order item for Armalite, but either way, it does exist.)

I think you're being wildly optimistic if you think the caliber will affect its chances of being banned by any new administration. Buy what you want now, join the NRA and vote in every election...

I think I remember reading about someone rebarrelling a Saiga 308 in .243 over on the Saiga forum.

I think all that's involved with a FAL is changing the barrel since the back end of the case is basically the same as the .308 Winchester, so there should be no magazine or extraction problems.
