SIG Sauer P226 X5. Stainless steel slide, 5" hand fit match barrel, on a stainless steel frame. Excellent trigger, very good sights. Doubt you can wear one out. I have one in .40 S&W and it is like shooting a 9mm. Need to get a Bar-Sto conversion barrel for it in 9mm... and maybe .357 SIG too.

I have a couple S&W 5906's, a Star Model B, and a Ruger P89 DC. They all are as reliable as an anvil and really good shooters. I bought them all with the intention to use as bullet hoses at the range. None of them has disappointed me yet. I like the heavier weight as it helps me with my accuracy. Heck I even have a Hi Point C9 that I have tried to wear out and so far no problems with it either.:p

FWIW The two S&W 5906's are my favorite/most accurate range guns in 9MM.

well, the two guns I've owned that I've run the most ammo through have been the Ruger SR9 and the Springfield XDM, both amazing guns, both way better than the glock in my opinion. I would not hesitate to get a XDM for a range gun, so long as you clean it every case or so, you'll be fine, I usually clean mine when I can no longer remember the last time it was cleaned.

If you come across a 3rd gen Smith & Wesson semi auto around $350 I would take a look. I picked up a nice 5906 for $380 in great condition. Really like it, 38oz of American stainless steel. These guns get overlooked alot, but make great range and hd guns. Before buying just study up on them, there's alot of different models.

I have a friend that has a Ruger P-85 that he swears he doesn't clean.

Your results may vary, but they were over-built.

I'd opt for a Hi-Power.

Is the 9MM Parabellum the new .22.? They seem to be the choice for tin can targets. I own many of the classic 9MMs. My favorite for accurate 9MM pistols is the Luger. They are more like hunting and target pistols than combat handguns.:)
