Shooting Pesky Red Squirrels

I still have an ancient RWS Diana 52 (purchased circa 1990 or so). It hasn't been to war against tree rats in ages, but undoubtedly would still get the job done. :) I only used iron sights back in the day (excellent sights!), but I'd probably have to scope it at this point to compensate for my eyesight... o_O

I have been using a Sheridan Blue Streak using JSB Exact Diablo pellets for a number of years. This combo has proven to be deadly on squirrels!

Very nice !
Sheridan did use some pretty Walnut back in the day. Mine doesn’t have quite as much going on, but still nicer than the wood I’ve seen on a lot of stocks.
Couple of questions; about what year was this one made, and is the buttplate original, or was it added ?
Mine is approx ‘75 and didn’t come with one (but I have thought about adding one).

This is what I have right now. Had a gift certificate from Amazon to use up so I bought these.
One is CO2 (22cal) and one is pump (.177cal)

It's hard for me to hit a chipmonk with these at 20 yds. But I still keep trying. They are accurate enough and I have made the feathers fly on a couple Grackles at that range. I would love to mount a scope on CO2 one. I would think the pump slamming would be hard to keep a scope in tune on the pump gun.
I have a barrel cleaning kit with the 2240 but I have read that you don't clean the barrels on air guns if you want them to be accurate so it will never get used.
It is fun though. There are supposed to be websites where I can buy upgrades for these two pistols, haven't found them yet.
I test shot these at the indoor pistol range that I use. The pump gun did pretty good after I found a pellet it liked.
Gamo ballistic tip pellets.jpg These ballistic tips pellets shoot really well.
The guns are accurate, I just have to get them under control. The chipmunks and the squirrels are coming on my back patio and chewing holes in my seat cushions. At $30.00-$45.00 a cushion, this is getting expensive.

I will get them if I have to buy a rifle to do it with. I would love to have a side lever, fixed barrel rifle but I'm not paying $500.00 for one.
I have to start shopping or find a scope I can use on one of my pistols.
It's a lot of fun, and with primers the way they are, it helps to curb my shooting appetite.

Not sure about that not cleaning. The HW30 I bought last year was not very accurate until I cleaned it really well. People say that about 22 LR also and that's wrong as well. I was disappointed when my Hatsan and old Ruger out shot the HW30. I have been catching squirrels in my traps and taking them out into the country a few miles away. I might try to soot some when the weather gets better and the leaves appear for cover.

You can't afford for them to keep eating your cushions. Time for war. I haven't seen a red squirrel in over a week. Off to Virginia for two weeks on business. Glad that I have caught up enough to take a break.

teerex.otw, the serial number puts it at 1972. The stock has been refinished, the internals have been rebuilt and the buttplate and spacer were added on.

My ultimate pester the Hatsan AT P1 QE .25 cal PCP pistol. Literally a bobbed rifle in a pistol chassis, which while large is still easier to maneuver around than a rifle. Fairly quiet, very accurate and up to 30 FPE. I've taken gophers, red squirrels, and even a large rat that tried to make his way across the property.

Looking good! My FlashPup has been fantastic. It's doing service for a family friend in a pecan growth right now. Be Well, Regards

I was told there were some hordes of biohazard infected red squirrels back a few years ago so I had made up a custom (Biohazard Edition) Ataman AP16 .22 cal PCP pistol to specifically take out said infected pests. There weren't nearly as many as anticipated but I took out a few key ones, and must have scared off the rest. But just in case any infected pests come back I'm prepared. :D

I'm doing ok with my American Classic Crossman pump up pistol, I've gotten 2 squirrels, 1 chipmonk, and two blackbirds with it so far at my feeder which is 20 yards from my kitchen window.
I had to make my peace with it.
I'm going to work with the 2240 (the black one in post 81) a little but that thing is so dang loud. I need to find better pellets for it though. It's still new though, barrel hasn't been coated yet so it's groups are the greatest yet.

Diana (RWS) 48 and Diana 260. Both in .22.
Available as a pair if you're interested.
