At a local gun show today there was a used Ruger American (but in nearly new shape), wanting $350...including original box and a cheek riser. I came around again and it hadn't been snatched up, to my surprise. Should I go back and pick it up tomorrow? I need another 300BP like I need a hole in the head (have several AR-style, but that price is hard to beat in my mind. How accurate is the thing likely at 100 yards?

My Ranch in 300aac would shoot supers into less than moa groups. The sub loads i used were 245MBCs over just enough w231 to keep the bullets from getting stuck, and those shot around 2-2.5moa (750ish fps and sounded like a .22)

If you dont have a bolt gun and you LIKE the 300aac, then Id get it.....especially if you dont already have a suppressed or sub shooting bolt gun.

Have one, it's a nice gun. Very accurate. Nice it takes AR mags
Only thing I don't like is the plastic bolt cover

If I did it again I'd probably buy 7.62x39
Easier to find cheap ammo.

I love my Ruger Ranch in .300 BLK. Inch groups at 100, using factory Super ammo. Pleasure to shoot...go for it at that price.
Add a bipod, inexpensive scope, open up the mag release, and get a few more mags and you're good-to-go.

A shame you missed it. The Ruger American Ranch is a fine bolt gun in any caliber. Hopefully another one will come along. I would go with 7.62x39 if the opportunity presents itself. I have two friends that have them, and they are tack drivers even with inexpensive steel case ammo. Sub MOA.

I have an American in ,300bo and a Predator in 6.5 Grendel, both are excellent shooters compared to their AR counterparts. No complaints on accuracy. Action isn't the smoothest but both have loosened up with use. I had AR mags for both calibers so the AR mag versions were a no brainer. No functional issues with either.
Too many bolt actions out there with mags that are flimsy, unreliable, expensive or hard to find.
Only complaint is that the PMAG my .300bo came with would hang up the bolt when empty. That's how a semi auto should work but not a bolt action. But every other brand of mag allows the bolt to close on empty.
I run a lot of different brands of mags in my ARs but the ,300bo American seems to like Lancers & Elanders while the 6.5 G likes D&H and CPD/Duramags.

The best bolt action combat rifles were like that. I don't see where a rifle that emulates a K98 would be a detriment. BUT, that annoys me too. The followers get the bench grinder treatment. ;)

Every Ruger American I shot was spooky accurate. One secret is installing a lighter trigger spring; they sell for $10-$15.

OP, I'm sorry you missed out at the gun show. It's happened to a lot of us.

I really like mine. It shoots sub-MOA with the 110gr Barnes. Very quiet with subs through a can. I've taken several deer with it, subs and supers. Thinking about trading up to the AR mag version.
