My 686, w/ Safariland holster.
Those are the holster and carriers I started with when I first dipped my toes in...first with a 2.5" M-66, then a 4" M-10

I've since upgraded to a Comp-Tac holster and carriers. The JM grips on my 686 are going to be a love-it or hate-it deal...just like some folks like more grip (checkering/tape) and others like less (smooth/slippery)

Yeah, I'm never gonna place real high, but when I can beat out a few of the SSP and CO folks it does give one a glow. I use the Comp III for the classifier, but otherwise I just use the HKS speed loaders. For the last month I did shoot SSP w/ G17 in anticipation of the GSSF River Bend Ballistic Challenge, sadly delayed until fall, so back to Revo, when we start having matches again.

First season of SSR gun. I have shot mostly Smiths and automatics since. I still get out the Python occasionally to show that it is a working gun, not just a Ballistic Paperweight. The Comp I goes back to PPC days and is about worn out. The luxy German SL Variant is theoretically good but not as certain as I would like. So I reload with Comp IIs and the others are for LAMR.

I never really stuck with them or any particular division as I didn’t want to be the guy that was a MA in one class and a SS in some other. I kind of did them in seasons going from one to another, I guess ‘06 and ‘09 were my revolver years.

I used 2 different 625’s, just trigger and sight work. My revolver grip is oddly high so the bobed hammer fits me better. Used a comp-tac locking paddle holster and I don’t remember who’s moon clip holders but I had to modify them slightly to be legal. Used a little tackle box to hold everything I needed for a match. In the beginning I used NT small pistol primer brass because I could have a lighter trigger pull with 100% ignition, than I could get with large primers. I later switched to GAP brass because it too uses SPP and doesn’t require any tools to moon/demoon.

A 686-1 was my other one, same hammer mod and trigger work, I also installed a later cylinder release. The hardest mod I made was machining the barrel for the front sight I also made. Comp III speed loafers and their holder is what I used as well, I made the holster out of Kydex.

One other odd thing is that I shot the moon clip gun using a strong hand reload and the speed loader one using a weak hand reload. Whatever worked the best I guess.

Now there is just one Revolver division in IDPA. ESR and SSR were combined in 2017 IIRC. They still allow both with minor changes but both are in the same division now. Speedloaders at 105 PF and moonclips at 155 PF. Just before I got into IDPA (having been in USPSA for several years) they changed the rules to barrels no longer than 4.25-inches making all my revolvers no longer legal in IDPA so I bought my Model 10 specifically for IDPA. The 625 was always my favorite revolver to run in practical pistol sports but mine is a 5-inch gun.

When I started they were combined as well but folks got tired shooting against 625’s with 230 grain bullets going 550 FPS, you could see the bullets in flight. IIRC the load was 2.8 gn of Clays. Then they created ESR so put moon clips into a different division.

I suppose they put them back in one because so few play with them. Then again that could be completely wrong too. They did a lot of nutty stuff once Joyce took over and they dropped the “stability of the rules” part out of the rule book.

Such a cool gun, but they've really worked hard to run it out of every practical shooting sport except for ICORE.

But at the moment, my 625 is getting exactly the same amount of use as my Open, Limited, and Production division guns.

So what are you shooting instead? :D Airsoft in the basement?
