SHTF Scenario???

The number 1 problem with most people's SHTF (TEOTWAWKI / Jericho type incident) scenario is that they have got it wrong there too. There is this belief that everything will stop.

That is precisely because of the media which often portrays everything as
quickly going from total toddler chaos to complete loss of civilization within
days where people forget the use of the wheel.

There is a lot of adolescent FANTASY in such thinking in the first place. I'm
not sorry if that offends anyone here. You don't see such thinking from war
veterans and people who've actually traveled to 3rd world countries. There
may not be a McD's drive thru (outside of Camp Victory :p ) in those places,
but trust me, there are plenty of people who can enforce authority and make
sure the trains and donkey carts get to market on time with goods to sell.

There is a big difference between SHTF (always short-term) and TEOTWAWKI
(longer than a temporary situation, but still just part of a transition). I have
yet to see any example from human history where some form of civilization
did not recover. People make the Fall of Rome sound like it happened in a
day with a single sacking of the city. NONSENSE. It took the Roman Empire
hundreds of year to decline and it was supplanted by many smaller functioning
kingdoms.

Some of you who plan on running around the countryside with their battle rifles
while some city (or two or three, or even a dozen) riots 100 or 1000 miles
away will very quickly find that your local LE, the State's National Guard,
and other authorized federal troops will be functioning very well. You will
be provided a place to calm down and collect your thoughts if you would
like to debate who has the authority in your area.

I would strongly advise you not to drive around somali style like you now own
anything beyond your own farm/plot in the subdivision/compound. Those of
us who would still have a job to do and need to get there and/or drop our
kids off at grandma's down the road do not need you getting in our way.

Stay in your compound and remain calm so we can get civilization up and
running again. Thanks in advance.

(No, I am not a storm trooper and I don't play one of TV either.)

The Mod's will be around shortly to close this down, I suspect.

Well, not as shortly as usual- even mods go home for Christmas, after all. This IS off topic for S&T, I really really really dislike seeing those four letters in a thread title here because the threads always go off the road and into the ditch quickly.

So.. back to your regularly scheduled S&T, y'all.
