I have been eyeing a Sig P320-Xten Comp, and I saw reviews stating that is particularly unsafe & can discharge on its own. Most reviews are older, but some are newer, with most stories being from cops. I really want a 10mm, and this pistol looks very pleasing overall. I'd assume it comes down to poor handling of the gun, but stories and videos of the gun going off in its holster are unsettling. What are your opinions, gents?

Despite what "information" you may find on the internet, and despite the most recent consolidated lawsuit put forth by an ambulance-chasing attorney, NO firearms technical experts nor forensic firearms examinations have been able to replicate the instances of the P-320 firing without something pulling the trigger (since the initial release of pistols that were documented to not be "drop-safe).

See attached link

It has been shown in some of the cases that either foreign objects (I.e., pocket or purse detritus, drawstrings from clothing, broken holster, etc.) migrated inside the trigger guard and when the pistols were jostled, bumped, pulled or push down in holsters, the trigger was pulled. It has not been shown since the initial drop fire debacle -- long since rectified -- that the P-320 is simply capable of firing on its own with no mechanical action taking place.

That is good to know it is just human error! Now I feel confident in my future purchase!

Sorry, sometimes I forget there is a search function! :/

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the 320 trigger design, FCU. I think they could have made it safer, add a dingus/etc. I bought a 320 x compact when they started offering L.E the newer RMR optic cut and it’s served me well.

If I may, may I who has owned an XTEN, suggest you check out some reviews on the SIG forum?...especially if you shoot heavies (not a safety issue). It may save you some heartbreak.

Not having one is a reason why the P320 is so appealing to me.

What is the issue? Something with the 10mm?

I have read a ton about that subject here, just ordered a police trade in P-320 from Aim Surplus.

I guess you could say I'm not concerned.

I’d be all in on one of those trade in deals if the price is right

My local L.E agency ditched their 320 X Carry pistols, bought Staccato 2011s to replace them. They swore off cheap guns.

For all calibers? If so, that is disappointing. What are we talking here? Failure to feed?
No, just the 10mm. A google search will turn up tons of threads on various forums. They may have rectified the issue now as the gun has been out for a while. Seemed like it was hit or miss with the magazines, people reporting it seemed like the spring wouldn't push the rounds up fast enough.

My first P320, from CDNN, was a 'red box' refurb at a very reasonable price; my LGS liked the deal well enough that they got a couple more

for the shop. Mine is now like George Washington's hatchet; the head replaced twice, and the handle 3 times, but it's still Washington's hatchet. All that remains in mine is the FCG.
BTW, my guess of what they changed, among other things, the triggers are now hollow. The issue being a slide down drop, the inertia of the trigger might fire the gun. That's why the 'dingus' is there for the Glock.
The SIG's steel trigger does give a much better feel.

LOL! Yeah, we've talked about this before; it must be a really well funded agency! ;)

Paid for with donations :)

It hasn't been that long since the last multipage thread about the safety of the SIG 320...we're not going through that again so soon

I'm sure the Search Function will be able to turn it up
