Are you using Lee Alox lube?
If so, you are supposed to lube with a light coat, allow to dry and size with the push through sizer.
Then, apply another coat, allow to dry and load.
I do use the Lee die with pan lubed bullets as well.
With non-gas checked bullets, I pan lube and then size with the Lee push through and I'm done.
With gas checked bullets, I will spray the bullets with a little bit of liquid case lube, and size upside down, applying the gas checks. Then I pan lube the gas checked bullets.
I do it like Arkansas Paul does. I figured that a bit of lube would at least keep the die that much cleaner, therefore producing bullets without any scratches to reduce accuracy. I also use case sizing lube when sizing/resizing jacketed bullets as well.
My Experience: I have found that sizing dies from Lee to be well finished. I'd consult the Lee instructions that are specific about lubing the bullets prior to sizing . This is easy in my case since it's possible to lube in my Lyman 4500 with oversized die. It's cheaper to get the Lee than most any other way to get to where I want to be. YMMV
Addendum: Please note that I am using conventional lube. Note this is not the Lee Tumble Lube. Whether you size in the Lee or conventional lube-sizer there will be some exposed lead. Exception is tumble lubed and shot as cast. That works too. I still suggest reading the instructions.
I’ve sized many, many thousands of bullets through Lee sizers.
It can be done lubed or un-lubed.
No need to re-lube after sizing. Doesn’t hurt, either.
Most bullets have some sort of grooves that will accept and hold lube wiped from contact surfaces.
