Never let it be said I don't learn from my elders at THR
After thinking that just maybe a 340PD could be a very nice carry piece, I decided to run an Armslist search since the lone specimen on gunbroker.com starts at $950 + shipping + FFL and + sales tax.
I found a December 3rd or so listing for a used one in my state and neighborhood, asking $750. I reached out and was surprised I got an answer back that the gun had sold but the owner had a new in box, unfired one he was toying with selling as well.
So, we came to an agreement and met earlier today to complete the deal. I don't buy that the gun was never fired but I don't believe the seller is a fisherman either, I think whoever sold it to him may have stretched the truth. In any event, I believe it has seen 15-20 rounds down the pipe.
This one also has a front nightsight, XS brand is what I was told. He also threw in the S&W combat grips which she's wearing in the pictures. With that grip it weighs exactly 12 ounces unloaded. The trigger is much better than I expected from a factory J-frame, but I have seen stock ones with nice triggers from time to time.
The feature list on the original box is 05-AD-SM-GR-B2-SF-SR-FA-CT-ZB which I'm sure means something to S&W.
I'll give this one a try tomorrow with some of my Hornady 158 grain .38 special XTP ammo to see if it's a keeper. I can shoot that ammo accurately enough with my 442 pro-series J-frame which weighs in at about 16 ounces wearing a combat grip.
